I have just (about 30 mins ago) upgraded to vista ultimate.
When I try to start a game, project64 says:"could not load game".
I have seen project64 running on vista.
I have tested as administator, in compactablity mode, and in both on.

And, on XP, pj64 worked normally.

How are you loading a game? Double-clicking an entry in the Rom Browser or File --> Open Rom?

Double-clicing an entry in the rom browser.

Edit: I tried File-open rom-Super Mario 64 and it works!

What form of Ultimate are you using 32 or 64?

Cause 64-Bit drivers are in the prototype stages and will not be perfected for use for a while, therefore your GFX card is gonna be a little bad.

As for why the game could not be loading, did you try installing DirectX End User Runtime? I did, and it works perfectly on my Vista Premium.

Why do it? Because DirectX 9.0 is there, but it's named weird and some applications don't like it.

PJ64 is not 100% compatible with Vista.

1.7 will attempt to fix this.

till then make sure you have installed the DirectX9 webupdate to install the latest MDX libraries

I'm using vista business and I'm not having too much trouble with running P64. Only sometimes the video and sound freeze for like 2 seconds. Only the games goes on for those 2 seconds! So this can be quite annoying when in combat. I also have an old xp computer which runs the same version of P64 without any problems. ANYWAY, what I'm traying to say is: Vista (no matter what version) is still in its babyshoes. It'll take some time before it is as reliable as XP

Vista

well, I run on wndows vista home premium ans Project64 works like a dream.
But, it way depend on witch version you are using. Ive never tried v 1.7 beta, but i ALWAYS use 1.4,1.5, and 1.6. Check your plugins under settings, then see if your plugins are selected or else they wont run.

My guess here is just bad ROMs.

And I personally haven't had any issues with Project64 1.6 on Vista, other than missing msvcrXX.dll libraries when using N-Rage's input plugin, but I easily downloaded them off Google, who is our friend. :)
