Finally!!!

YAY!!! I finally got my new video card today.arty: It's a 256MB GeForce 6200 OC(overclocked, in case you don't know what that stands for). It's pretty awesome, it works great with all the plugins i have, which are jabo's 1.6, Rice 6.1.1 beta10, and direct64 0.5.03.25. I had to tweak some settings though to get it to work properly. Still, this video card's not much with an 800MHz processor. But, i found this great deal at Fry's Electronics, you get a socket 754 ECS N-Force3 motherboard and a Sempron 3100+ 1.8 GHz processor for $90. With 512MB of pc3200 RAM and tax that's only a little over $150, so i think i'm gonna buy that some time this week. Then i'll be able to run games full-screen with hi-res textures at full frame-rate. It's gonna be sweet. Then i'm probably gonna donate $20 to project 64 so i can get access to 1.7beta versions, since 1.7's not coming out until around 2007.

oh nice, an pure marketing 256MB in an 6200.....i told you,it´s total waste 256MB on that 6200 but like in some forums...ignorance it´s first, oh well, a little mad, but, if you didn´t find another one.....

well, the radeon x700 pro would have been nice, but i couldn't afford it at the time. I still don't see why everyone thinks this card is a total waste, i mean, it's a hell of a lot better than what i used to have, right? Also, i thought having more video ram is a good thing. If this card is really as bad as everyone says, i suppose i could take it back to the store, cough up the extra 50 bucks, and make an exchange for a radeon x700 pro, but would it really be worth it?

how so? could you be a little more detailed, as in what would be the advantages of having a radeon x700 pro over a geforce 6200. sorry for asking so many damn questions, but i don't want to waste my money.

the pixel shaders are supported with ati gfx cards i have a 9800 pro had no prblems with running games:bouncy:

The x700 Pro is significantly faster than the 6200, but with an 800MHz CPU, I'd point that $50 towards an upgrade there.

the waste it´s the extra 128MB in the card, 6200 it´s a good card for emulation, but 256MB it´s mostly MARKETING in cards below an ATI x800GT

and for that combo(mother /sempron and ram), it´s good.

ok, i think i see your point gandalf, the 128mb version of the card is $50 less and you won't really see a difference between the two. So i think i am gonna take that card back and get something else. my personal preference of video cards is ati, so i'm gonna buy one of them. First i was gonna go with the x700 pro. then i found something better, but i'm not sure if it will work with my computer. I was looking at the brand new x1300 at this page right here. http://www.ati.com/products/RadeonX1300/specs.html It is pci-express, but there is this part in there that says, "AGP 8x configurations also supported with external bridge chip". So, does that mean it will work with a motherboard that uses agp 8x? If someone could please answer me this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

axcc123, i think you misunderstood me. i was asking if the radeon x1300 (on that page i made a link to on my last post) will work with an agp 8x slot. 2 days ago you said you had a 9800 pro.

it´s hard to say, because the notebooks don´t have any expansion slot for video cards, or got one if they have an "non-integrated" video card.

for last time: 256MB IT´S PURE MARKETING IN LOW-END/MID-END GRAPHICS CARDS! (5200/5500/5600/5700/6200/6600, 9200/9550/9500/9600/x300/x600/x700/x1300)

256MB Texture Memory helps in any situation, just not as drastically with slower GPUs.

It's used as a marketing technique, but it does have its benefits (support for higher res textures).

yes, you have an agp 8x slot on your motherboard, but do you have a radeon x1300 video card? According to a post you made a couple days ago, you have a radeon 9800 pro, so it looks like you don't. So then how would you know that it works? Sorry if any of this sounds rude, i'm not trying to offend anyone, but i just want an answer from someone who either has one or really knows what they are talking about. Ok, the thing that's confusing me about this is it's a pci express card but there's this part in the specifications that reads "AGP 8x configurations also supported with external bridge chip". First of all, what the F*** is an external bridge chip. I've never heard that word in my whole life. If anyone knows what that is please say something. Second thing, that kinda sounds like it might work with an agp 8x slot. That's what i'm hoping for, cause that's what i have. So, any computer geniuses out there, please read this post.

Oh yeah, Gandalf, if you were talking to me about the 256MB pure marketing crap, i already said i get it. (I still like having 256MB vram though, it makes my card sound better than it really is.) yes i have a ati 9800 pro. external bridge chip allows the local processor to have complete PCI configuration control of subsystem devices, without host interference. mainly used on intel motherboards like mine it's is also called a PCI to PCI bridge:bouncy:

A very good and affordable card

ATI RAEDON 9250. You can get it for only $80. I got the PCI version (only because my Motherboard doesn't have an agp slot), and it works great. It can run almost every compatable N64 Rom at full speed. I have problems with Mission Impossible and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, but that's it for what I've tested. It's worth it if you have a fast processor.
