The first public beta version of vB3 was released the other day, and I've been pondering about if we should upgrade emutalk or not.

Pros: Lots of new features. Fun with new stuff to play with, multiple attachments etc.

Cons: It's a beta, there are bugs. All hacks will be lost. Downloads section will be gone.

/me ponders some more.

:)

Oh no...for the forum's sake, we can't lose the hacks ;)
And who cares if it's a beta! :p I love betas anyway! (I grab as many public betas as I can when I can get a hold of them! :D)

Well...let's wait then :|

Yea, I'd agree with egle. Since its still the first public beta, it's oughta be really buggy. Let's wait least until beta 2. :satisfied

I say we keep the current version, the hook up between emu64 and emutalk is really sweet... :) It would be stupid not to move on at some point but as for now it's getting the job done...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it... :emutalk:

That's the only thing that actually bothers me... Unless there's a way to back it up, and try and add it later when a final vB version is released, I say we shouldn't go for it.

Well, alternatively, you could ask nice little rattrap (or another site guru) to make a neat little page for downloads. Just like the Emulation64 homepage. And link the download section there...

Of course, it's only a ... "backup solution." heh

I guess I could re-write it, but it would take time and would probably be a pain in the arse since vB3 works very different from vB2 (I've heard). If we upgraded, the downloads section would be turned into regular boards with threads that has attachments in them. That would work for the time being I suppose. :)

Meh...
well just in case you admins didn't know, you could always download the dark theme on your computer then when you install vBulletin 3.0.0 you could reupload the style as a new style again. make sure you say yes for "Use style file even if it is for a different version of vBulletin".

I believe that won't work, gokuss. I don't think vB2 styles work on vB3.

Martin, could you please post the the list of new features included in VB3? That should make the decision easier.

I prey, not pray.
Martin: I would go for it if it weren't for the hacks...isn't there some way you could modularize all of them?

I'm an upgrading kind of guy, but maybe you could hold out for the final non-beta release and perhaps work out how to keep/adapt the hacks for the newer version.

The multiple attachments sounds like an excellent feature to me. I wouldn't mind losing the hacks myself, but I know that others really like them and would want to keep them.

I will go ahead and upgrade after I read the instructions carefully, everything's backed up already in case I screw up. :)

This could mean a couple of days of downtime. We've got a big board and all images has to be thumbnailed and everything must be converted to work with vb3's new system.
