TV Emulation

I don't know how common the type of TV I have is. I receive my television signal through a phone line to a high speed modem, then into a router and finally into a set-top box. I also have my computer hooked up to the router and get high speed internet access. I am trying to figure out if I can emulate my set-top box on my computer so I can record/watch TV on my computer. I talked to the techs and they said the video is streamed mpeg-2 format. Can anyone help me with this?
I'm currently using windows but would install a version of linux if that's what's necessary.

respond here or email me at [email protected]

i can't say that I have any exp, but it sounds like you just need a program that can take the mpeg2 video and save it to disk.. goggle for mpeg2 encoders and you'll hopefully find something that could be useful..

sounds a bit grey zone though, I don't think that's legal in sweden eventhough taping with vcr is.. so hard to tell..

if your TV is coming through your broadband connection then perhaps it's streaming from a particular address.... if so then you could simply point a proggie like winamp to it

the best (and easiest) way i would assume to figure out the address...if there is one would be to put a computer between your router and broadband modem and set it up as a proxy then get a proggie like netstat or ethereal to scan the packets and see where they are coming from
