Trouble with a dark screen

I have project64 version 1.6, and I'm trying to play a Majora's Mask rom but the screen is dark to the point I can't navigate through areas that aren't bright in the game. Is there anything I can do to lighten the screen?

It says the video plugin is Jabo's D3D8 1.6, but I can't find a brightness option. Do you know what I should look under to find it?

Try turning off "Hide Advanced Options" maybe. I thought it was on the main tab, though...

Yea I see it under the graphics configuration settings but it won't let me move it. I took off the hide advanced settings thing too...

Then your video card does not support the brightness option in Jabo's plugin, I suppose.

Perhaps turn up your monitor's brightness?

Thanks for the advice, but it was still annoyingly dark.

Is there anything I can download to make the video card support it? Or is there another emulator you think I should download that has a brightness option etc

It's the graphics plugin that has the brightness option, not the emulator. Update your graphics card drivers. In any case, Majora's Mask shouldn't be that dark.

Update your graphics card drivers.

I'm terribly sorry to keep bothering you guys, but what update do you suggest I get for my graphics card driver? My computer is Windows 98 if that is relevant.

I must point out that brightness on CRT monitors is useless. It just makes black look gray. Best thing to do, in my opinion, is to max out the contrast and the brightness, then lower brightness until black looks black. Doing this really helps on the Aquas level in StarFox 64, for me.

I don't remember MM having issues with lighting though, what IS your graphics card, and have you tried using any other plugins?

^thank you for that advice

My graphics card is: 32MB Diamond Viper V770D Ultra NVIDIA

So based upon this information if you know what upgrade I should get then please tell me.

Yep, definitely very old. That's a RIVA TNT2. You ought to be using Jabo's D3D6 1.5.2.

You should have posted your specs earlier. This way we could have recommended viable options to you from the get-go. :/

Most of Jabo's D3D8 plugins special graphics settings only work with cards that support DirectX8 natively. Hence why you couldn't use the brightness slider.

Sorry I should have told you. I don't know much about this.
So could you tell me what upgrade I should get?

With a video card as outdated as that one, chances are your entire computer is um... antequated? Still, if your motherboard has an AGP slot, I'd recommend at least a GeForce 7xxx series.

10 YEARS OLD!?!?! Good lord!
In Tech years your machine now belongs in history books as an ancestor of modern machines lol

If you save up some $$$$ get another MoBo(Motherboard) and begin the inevitable upgrade.:pj64:
