Ah hah. This is very interesting... But i didn't really know that it took up RAM, i thought texture management was done in VRAM (even for this stuff). I have somewhere > 600 MB of VRAM. I do understand the plugin could manage the texture outside of vram, and therfore have a copy outside of it too - but i wasn't sure if they did. I haven't taken very long to figure out the rice video code.

I'll take a look at this too. Its very interesting to hear that the stars would cause this - I mean, those are small and there aren't THAT many of them. It seems to be backed up by the fact that using texture filters slows it. Ironically, 16-bit texture seems to speed it up. Is RiceVideo not caching textures properly?

Actually for the Intel 965 chipset on my MiniPC it uses shared RAM, so VRAM and system RAM are the same. But this is not so on my desktop PC, and I saw system RAM usage jump quite a lot on this machine as well. So it's probably taking big chunks of both system and VRAM.
