cool!

Hehehe
And on the 9500 Pro, once you turn on AA and AF it kicks the crap out of the Ti4600

I strongly recommend a 9500 Pro... they can be found at Xtreme Gear for $165 OEM or $188 Retail. I got one of the OEM cards - it's a Sapphire red PCB with an ATi sticker, so it's basically built by ATi

it does?? duh! never bothered to check on that..hey ur rite, i just checked a site now! cool! at least im all set for doom3 now:D

ok well i think im going to go with asus a7n266-E motherboard and go with the onboard sound but get a GeForce4 TI 4200 64MB

get a radeon 9500 pro as i said, or at LEAST the geforce4 ti 4200 8X 128MB, cuz these cards r more futureproof u know u dont have to worry aobut memory intensive games, another MAJOR advantage of the 9500 pro is its support for DX9, u oughta take that into consideration as well...the only downside is that ati drivers aren't really that good compared to nvidia!

When I sell my old computer. I'ma wait for the Geforce FX cards. Superb speed for what I usually play. (Unreal Tournament 2003) and at only £300 when they come out this month. ^.^

As for onboard audio. Mine isn't half bad, SoundMAX 3D with all the usual. Optical out for Dolby 5.1 Surround, Bitrate out, and all the other standards. But I still want an Audigy 2 Platinum. Only around £150-£160, whereas I can get and Audigy 2 Normal from about £89 (Thank you Amazon.)

I just wish I had money after building this new computer.

Oh, and monitor size makes a difference too ::pats his 19"::

Umm, are you really going to get GF FX?! That's the most idiotic thing i've heard...that card isn't all well and getting the latest card is always stupid.

And yeah, onboard sound isn't too shabby.

::cough:: I have a freind who had a card during testing as her uncle works for nVidia. She said it rocked, showed me screenshots of UT2003 and it does pretty much rock. Especially atht e framerate she was getting.

Uh... AnandTech found that the 9700 Pro is faster than the GeForceFX Ultra in Unreal Tournament 2003. And if you buy one retail it will not be an Ultra.

Reference benchmarks:

AA and AF off, admittedly the FX Ultra does beat the 9700 Pro's average frame rates, but the minimum is far more important - and the Ultra's minimum is way bad.

AA and AF on, the FX Ultra gets bitch-slapped.

And how much would you say the Radeon 9700 is? I am impressed by the results, but not sure... If Nvidia can get the drivers out properly, FX might overtake the ATI

tis true..

nvidia seems to have a record of releasing drivers (a couple months after) that perform speed boosts with their cards... it's all about the beta drivers...

OMG! Someone is getting the latest card? let's burn them to hell! I mean geeze, he wants to have the best thing and not have some second rate card? well who the hell does he think he is? what a bloody idiot he is! :getlost:

ATi isn't done optimising either you know. And the FX non-Ultra has a good way to go before it catches up to the 9700 Pro.

The 9700 Pro can be had at Xtreme Gear for $295 OEM or $324 retail box. :)

Hear Hear. Anyways, according to rumors now turned to facts. GeforceFX isn't gonna be sold, only the pre-ordered stock and the non-ultra will be retailed for the first batch too.

audigy makes a difference, trust me. i used to have onboard video and though it sounded good. then in my new comp at school i put in an audigy xgamer. well, when i went back home and listened to music on the computer w/ onboard sound, i could tell a huge difference. so yes, it does actually make a difference.

And many onboard sound is some kind of emulation and have unoptimized drivers. My friend had AXP2200+ w/ onboard sound - he had frame skips in FF7 (ePSXe with Pete's D3D) and periodical slowdowns in some not so new games (UT, Half-Life) while all that stuff runs on my outdated machine with constant 60fps (AXP2200+ w/ GF4 Ti 4200 vs K6-2-550 w/ Voodoo 5 :O ) When he got SBLive! all things became normal)

I tried to allude to that but I guess I should've been more direct...

And one last thing that could make many people think twice about GFFX -
it will make computer sounds like jet fighter on full afterburners.
My friend said "It's better to call it GeForceNoiseFX or GeForceSawmill" :D)

The newest cards drops pretty quick in price, ffs! It's the most idiotic thing to buy the newest card on the market as it would likely cost $400 then. A month later, perhaps, the price would be around $200. Wow, $200 lost! Well, it's their decision.
