The "New" Star Wars DVD set...

Well, I'll assume at least some of you have seen the latest barrage of "SUBTLE" changes (read: Desecrations...) to the classic Star Wars trilogy, and basically wondered what any remaining Star Wars fans felt about them?

Anyone who can deny that as a travesty better have a very good argument. ;)

Yeah, that does look pretty shocking. I've never really been a big Star Wars fan, and only watched the original 3 once or twice (a while back), so I'll probably get the boxset just to refresh my mind.

I could really care less about the changes. If I ever want to watch the original versions I'll just pop the VHS tapes of the 1995 set into my VCR, simple as that. I also have the 1997 VHS set of the Special Edition in case I ever want to watch that.

Is that supposed to be the guy who played Anakin Skywalker in Episode II?

Also, I think I'm in favor of a few changes. It should tie the entire hexad together. ;)

Yeah IceFox, that is what Anakin is supposed to look like in Episode III, played by Hayden Christensen. Speaking of Episode III, we should be getting a trailer pretty soon considering the other trailers were released at about this time the fall before the movies opened. September 1998 for Episode I and September 2001 for Episode II. So there should be an Episode III trailer pretty soon.

The movie itself will be out in (May/June?) 2005, so a trailer definately isn't far off. I'm just glad the series will (hopefully) be over. The movies are pretty good and all, but technology ruined it. The originals were a lot better IMO.

That was generally the question, whether people believed the films were better back in the days when *HAN SHOOTS FIRST!* ;)
I guess what has to be born in mind also is that a lot of people have only seen the special editions or later "Prequels" and, well, when I watched the SE's I found them very very boring, and a lot of the new visuals needlessly overblown. The originals just feel much more enjoyable for some reason.
It's just an issue throwing new effects into older footage, and it doesn't always work. Throwing the `younger` ghost in as seen above just looks like it doesn't fit at all, and it adds a heck of a lot of continuity issues that don't fit all the films together that well.

Anyway, I could care less about Lucas' changes to the series, if he wants to milk the series as much as he can he can be my guest, just remember kids - paying for crappy movies gives way to more crappy movies be made.

Speaking of Star Wars did anybody else watch Star Wars-Empire of Dreams on A&E? I liked it. The most hilarious part was when they showed the original footage of David Prowse in full Darth Vader costume saying some his lines. It reminded me of Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. :)

That is the very first thing I thought of when I heard Prowse speaking through the costume. :)

What I thought was even more interesting, if I heard correctly, was that they told Hammill the whole "I am your father" line, but that Prowse actually said "Obi-Wan is your father", so that the whole cast didn't know.

From all accounts though, Prowse has been denied the chance to don the suit again in Episode 3, and I can't see him being pleased by being cut out of the end of RotJ now either.

Yeah, he should at least be able to play him in Episode III, cutting him from the end of Return of The Jedi is dumb too. Well I at least have the originals on VHS.

Yup, and Mr. Shaw will still be seen when Luke removes Vadar's mask. His eyes will be recolored though, to match Hayden's.

Well, the DVD set came out today. I'm pleased with it so far, but apparently it's still a "work in progress beta".:p I read somewhere that Lucas will release an "Ultimate Edition" in I believe 2007, which will fix everything to the way he wants it to be. It will be the final release.

I don't know if this is true, could be a rumor.
