If you consider *most* FF's turn-based, you obviously just don't like RPG's at all. Which I will respect. No big deal.
Oh, and Dayve, you obviously aren't too big in gaming communities, because FF tends to be more hated than loved overall. But your opinion is a bit.. retarded. For example, so far for me in FFX no single battle has lasted over 5 minutes. Even intense boss battles. Even battles where I've deliberately sat using Cheer or Focus over and over and over so I could get Overkill. =) Though yes, the entire FF series is very story heavy... but if you really think FF is story heavy, go play Metal Gear Solid or Xenogears/saga.

I really shouldn't have said I HATE turn based battle systems, sometimes though they aren't my thing, I shouldn't have even said that I hat the FF series, because I really don't hate it, I just like zelda more. For example, I played FFVII, I own the game actually, it isn't a bad game, but id sooner play A Link to the Past then FFVII if I had the choice (which I do).
IMHO, turn based battles are an annoyance, you can't walk from one place to another directly, without random battles, random battles get old when you're just trying to go from point A to point B to talk to personX about eventY. I can understand random battles when going from personX to BossZ, but just wandering around, how likely are you to get repeatedly attacked?
Though I did play Pokemon Red about a dozen times.....
Man I was lame when I was 12....
Also, I do like RPGs, I played NWN, im looking very forward to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the PC, I also played all the way through Chrono Trigger, (which is still one of my favorite SNES Games), I'm just not a fanboy for FF.

Anyways, I haven't played FFX because I know it's going to be just as lame as the others I have played. Still, 5 minutes for a battle is really frigging boring. I can't stand RPGs at all. I hate turn based battles, I hate storylines. If I wanted a huge boring in depth story line I'd buy myself a cheap DVD. Cheer, focus, overkill, beer. It's all the same to me.
