Just a note, I was in Middle School when Electonic gaming magazine announced the "Playstation" addon for SNES, and they stated that the name was dubbed by a Sony employee, and that Nintendo had thought about changing the name.;)

According to Wikipedia, the add-on was being called SNES-CD by Nintendo (I guess Sega was pretty unoriginal as well with their SEGA-CD add-on, since I think Nintendo beat them to the punch).

Nintendo never called their system add-on "PlayStation" to begin with.

So, this, coupled with generalplot's comments, show that BlueFalcon7 really should retract his comment about how the name was stolen by Sony - not that I expect that to ever happen; it's easier to play ignorant in the face of facts.

Sony developed the SNES CD addon for the Super Nintendo, but left the project after some quarrel with Nintendo and ended up developing the Playstation to compete with Nintendo 64. Just out of spite.

Apparently supports Microsoft and doesn't even realize it.:p
Just because you use something doesn't mean you support them. We can argue all we want but Windows is the all-in-one best platform for games and applications. Or perhaps I should just say the most popular.

The fact is that Sony is here, playstation is here and ps3 is upon us.
We are discussing something that happened 10 years ago and now it is consumated fact, that console war is over, won by large by Sony.

This one, between x360, Wii and PS3 is the matter at hand.

Actually Nintendo created the N64 to compete with the Playstation. But yeah Bluefalcon, you should really do your research before bashing something.

True enough. However, intentional or not, buying any Windows software or PC preinstalled with Windows does support M$, even if unintentional.:p But I get what you're saying.;)

Yar, but you just can't get away with getting a computer with Windows not installed. Unless you bargain or build yourself one. And I don't really consider piracing a software supporting a company either.
You could pirate Windows, since you need, and at the same time, not support Microsoft.

the most shocking thing in this thread is hearing a $499 console being called the budget version. wow.

?????????????????????????
Now that's sony for you :p
Budget? I must say it's very budget if it only has 20 gb HD and no HDMI ;) Probably a lot of other things that sony keeps quiet too.

More Wii goodness.

The Nintendo controller will feature a microphone and will store a user phonebook/address book while it will be used as a VoIP phone and will help gamers communicate while online without the need for a headset.

Nintendo's controller surprises keep coming in and as the details are revealed so is an underlying theme to the company's plan for the device. The new details mention a microphone built-in to the headset which will allow the controller to be used as a straight-forward VoIP phone. The news also mentions that users will be able to use the phone for video calls although it does not clarify exactly how a camera will come into play in the setup. The interesting news however, relates to the phone/address book details which will be stored on the controller suggesting that Nintendo expects each user of the Wii in the household to own their own Wiimote.

The inclusion of a microphone built-into the controller, along with the speaker announced at E3, will also offer gamers more freedom during online play as they will be able to communicate with fellow gamers without the need for a headset. This makes sense as most images we have of people playing with the infamous device, show them standing up and at some distance from the console.

Just when you think Nintendo has no more Wii related mysteries the company hits you with another one and this time it is the addition of Wiichannel.com to the list of Nintendo owned domains. Rumors of a Wii dedicated interactive channel that will carry animations, games and game trailers, TV shows and other audio/visual content have already started doing the rounds but as most of us have found the hard way, Nintendo is not playing by the book on this one; so expect nothing and anticipate everything.
