The best forum software...?

Irrelevant Insight
Myself and a friend are creating a message board very similar to this, but obviously with different colourings, logos and layouts etc. It isn't about emulation at all, either.

We've got the hosting all lined up with plenty of bandwidth, MySQL, PHP and Access support, but we're just a little undecided with one point...

What's the best forum software to use? I hear phpBB is very good, and I've seen stacks of boards created with it, but then there are others such as vBulletin. Bearing in mind that money isn't a problem, can anyone suggest the one to go for?

phpBB is crap imo.
A good free board is ikonboard. More powerful than phpBB to boot (yes, i am familiar with the phpBB admin functions as i use it everyday).

Get vBulletin then, it's $160 for an owned license, and $30 per year. The support and hacking community for vBulletin is way bigger than any other forum.

i recommend phpBB, ikonboard, or YABB. these do take up a lot of resources though. for very little resource usage, use wwwthreads.
