Sorry if I posted this wrongly; I couldn't find a thread to post this in, so I figured, I'll start a new one. If I did something wrong, tell me.
Anyway, there's this game. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. The only graphics plugin for DirectX that worked for me out of the 15 that I tested, was the Nemu64 Graphics plugin. Every other plugin would barely load anything about the game. Now, here's my problem with all of the emulators. Just wait; I'll get to Mupen64's suggestion.
Project64: By copying GS_DLL.dll to the directory of the EXE, I am able to use Nemu64's graphics plugin in other emulators to emulate Star Wars RS. The problem with Project64...is that it won't load the plugin correctly for some reason! So I can't emulate the game with this emulator, without using Rice's Video Plugin or something, which still hardly loads any textures. I won't post this suggestion to Project64 because this graphics plugin was really meant for Nemu64, anyway, so if PJ64 already won't load it, it's much easier to try Mupen64's suggestion.
1964: I am able to change my RSP plugin and use Nemu64's graphics plugin. Using this emulator, I was able to successfully fix the crappy sound by setting PJ64's RSP plugin to Interpreter, but for some reason, even with Nemu64's graphics plugin, 1964 just could not load all of the textures within the game. I won't post this suggestion to 1964 because that would be noobish of me to ask an emulator programmer to improve his/her emulator's graphics emulation! I already know you guys are all trying hard.
Nemu64: The emulator that I originally tried. It emulates the game just fine, only there's no sound because Nemu64 can't use Project64's RSP plugin. I won't post this suggestion to Nemu64 because the emulator is discontinued.
Mupen64: FINALLY! An emulator that loads the graphics of the game just fine (when using Nemu64's gfx plugin), processes the sound correctly because you can change your RSP plugin, and just seemed to work perfectly! Except for one thing: It won't go past the Expansion Pak Enchanced screen. That really annoys me. Had it not been for that, Mupen64 could have been the only emulator to perfectly support this game (along with the gfx plugin). I tried to search for an option in Mupen64 to disable the Expansion Pak setting (use 4 MB memory, not 8 MB) so I wouldn't even get that screen (which is what all of the other emulators did), but there isn't one.
So my suggestion is this: I think the next version of Mupen64 should have an option that lets you choose 4 MB or 8 MB (expansion pak support) for emulation, as Mupen64 seems to just use 8 MB setting for all games. A waste of CPU and maybe speed. With this enabled, it completely adds Star Wars: Rogue Squadron to the list of Mupen64-compatible games. I mean, I understand that you have to use Nemu64's graphics plugin first, but putting this option in the next version of Mupen64 makes it the only emulator to emulate both video and sound very well for just this one game, which is worth considering, right?
