Strange Windows startup

I don't have any idea, since I reinstalled Windows, after installing all the programs, windows works fine, except that somehow the Start Menu is blocked like 3 minutes every Windows startup, and then is fine. So I reinstalled Windows one more time to try to solve the problem but it is still there. What can I do?

Do you have a lot of programs on your autostart list? Atleast on my comp, all programs that are placed in the traybar on startup takes a while to load... Perhaps not 3 minutes but more then what's acceptable.

Check windows update for updates.

As remote said it is probably all the programs sticking theirselves on the startup bar. Disable those that you can live without (most of them) and things should improve. :)

I had a problem once where I would login, and Windows would just site for a minute or two doing nothing, showing a blank desktop and taskbar, before it decided to load.

I am currently having a problem where windows won't shutdown/restart/log off the first time, you have to select it twice.

It's usually not a Windows problem (and almost definetely not in Best Angel's case.) It's some crappy program that is stalling boot-up or shutdown. Norton programs are (in)famous for this stuff. Get rid of all startup/background programs/services you don't need (which is almost all of them.) 99% of services can safely be set to manual. But it's not a service problem most likely, it's some crappy startup program (which could possibly be related to a device driver as well. Drivers don't need services - it's all useless garbage.)

1.Try to use regcleaner by Nullsoft (winamp guys) to kill all starting up programs , kinda taskbart ones, disable all ya want, I do, and nothing has ever hapenned.
2.Just run msconfig and in tab services, just disable some of 'em, but be careful as disabling ones, can lead to consecuances like not being able to use internet and stuff like that (but nothing that can be reversable)

Before I made this thread, I made a lot of tests, I tried desinstalling Norton Antivirus, and I even get rid of a lot of services and startup programs but it didn't work. I remember a weird thing, I don´t remember well, but after installing a program (I don´t remember which one) and then, before restarting the PC, Windows tried to close a program called "Should not see me" Could it be a virus or a trojan? I already made a AdAware scan

I noticed the same "Should not see me" thing, but only when restarting after upgrading my video drivers. I figured it was part of the ATi driver installer.

I did a bit of searching:

http://www.google.com/search?q="sho...illa-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

No definitive answer, but it appears to be something with Windows, and not malevolent.

Now I remember well, the "Should not see me" thing happened to me also after installing my video drivers. But is kinda weird because I use Nvidia drivers...

Try bootvis from microsoft(for windows XP), you can find it on their site if you use the search.

or type in msconfig in your run window and disable some of the programs that will run or runonce at windows startup. TweakUI also has this function...

It's for decreasing the time it takes for XP to boot, it can make quite a difference. Definetely worth trying.

Bootvis reduced my boot time by half. Highly recommended. It analyzes a boot-up and re-arranges stuff on your HD for faster booting.
