Strange motherboard problem

When overclocking my 256 MB Kingston ValueRAM PC2100 DDR SDRAM to 150 mhz, it was fine. Memtest86 had been running for at least 8 hours with still no errors, then all of a sudden, the power went out briefly. After, the motherboard refused to power on and thus I was forced to unplug the power supply then plug it back in for the motherboard to power back on. Even more strange, my motherboard now will fail to even POST with the 256 MB Kingston ValueRAM PC2100 DDR SDRAM at 150 mhz, but appears to be OK at 145 mhz.

Why would a power failure cause my RAM to fail at 150 mhz now?

What kind of power supply do you have ? If you OC components , the power consumption grows and it grows more when you stress them . If the power supply is too weak , your PC could turn off .

Maybe when you pulled the plug, some settings in the bios were reset like the ram timings and the vdimm. Maybe your ram timing is better than it was before, that would mean it would be faster but not clock as high. And then theres the voltage... yeah.

OK, here's what occurred:

I was running Memtest86.

Memtest86 had been running for at least 8 hours when the power suddenly went out, briefly, because the power company was working on something or a vehicle hit a power pole. The power went out briefly when I was in the middle of running Memtest86. It was OK until the power went out!!!

After the power came back on within 5 minutes, I noticed my motherboard was refusing to power on, and there was no sign of life from the motherboard except for the green LED on the motherboard being lit, like if Asus COP got triggered!!! My processor was A-OK, thus there's no way the processor even got near dangerously high temperatures!!! I was forced to unplug the power supply cord then plug it back in and had it unplugged until the motherboard LED went out, then plugged the power supply cord back in for the motherboard to power back on again.

After, I noticed the motherboard was failing to POST until I turned off the PC then turned the PC back on so it would reset to a fail safe frequency setting, thus the motherboard would then automatically enter BIOS setup mode and when in the BIOS setup menu display the message stating that my system hung because of improper frequency combinations.

I really hope that I don't have a damaged capacitor on my motherboard.

BTW, for a power supply, I have an Antec True 430 430W power supply.

my A7N8X-E Deluxe got fuxxored over because of this, it was running Prime95 at stock speeds, when i woke up it was stable for 10 hours, when i came back from school, a power outage had occured when i was gone, and my mobo did the same thing, except it wouldn't go to BIOS, wouldn't beep, only life it showed me was the green asus led, sent it back to newegg for a new one

Umm... RJA , whats your problem , then ? Ok , it's strange , but who cares ? Do you want an possible explanation for this occurance , or something ?!

Ok , I think that could've happened :

The CMOS battery could have taken a little damage because of the power crash , and so the settings could be screwed !!!!!11one My PC acts like yours , if the clock settings are improper ( he doesn't even go POST , hangs while booting , etc... )

sounds like there was a quick power surge before the power cut, so its probably damaged some of your hardware, not much you can do about that except replace things.

Well, I didn't seem to loose any other settings, including time, thus I doubt the CMOS battery got damaged.

Edit: I managed to get it to POST at 150 mhz again.

But I may have a problem now where it randomly will fail to respond when I reboot with the FSB at 150 mhz :(.

Your PSU was probably over exerted. If your computer can't hack the Overclocking, don't do it.

My power supply is an Antec True 430 (430W) and I didn't see anything wrong with the voltages. BTW, the motherboard was getting power, thus my power supply probably was OK and the motherboard was being a bitch.
