It was a cold night. The wind was howling and the rain was thrumming against the window. The gas tank was completely empty. I was stuck here, in the middle of nowhere. My cell phone could find no network. Then...

Lights in the distance. The roar of the chainsaw had disappeared. It was eerily quiet, safe for the humming. I stood up. I had injured my leg when I fell, it was weak under me. I walked towards the lights. Something crunched under my right foor, I flinched. I had felt it crumple. I had no desire to know what it was. I hastened towards the humming and the light.
