SP2 issues?

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
Okay, now before I proceed to uninstall sp2, I'll make sure that these problems cannot be fixed... or I'll just live with them, I'm kinda used to it now anyway.

Okay first off, I don't care what you're going to say about this, but I still like messenger! :p It's hogging up cpu power like hell when logged in. I wonder if this has to do with SP2? It occoured after installing. I had version 6.1, recently installed 6.2 and haven't tested now. But the problem will probably remain. Think it's possible to fix somehow (save for not using it? :p That's what I'm doing currently!) ?

Secondly, the gfx drivers. I still use the old gf4 ti4200, since I don't have need for a better one. But lately, after the sp2 installation, problems have arosen. It happens that the screen suddenly does not update, then flashes black and back, and everything is normal. Except that it repeats all the time, in a random intervall. Tried updating the drivers with no success. This is mostly harmless save that it seems to have a small slowdown effect at times when playing n64 is fullscreen mode. Nothing else seems affected, though.

Anyone got these issues and know how to solve them? Or should I live with them? Perhaps uninstall sp2, maybe.

Messenger hogs memory based on the number of contacts you have in your list. There may be a difference in SP2 but its probably not much. The second issue sounds like something else as well. SP2 mostly concerns firewall/anti-virus/auto updates. It really doesn't have much video stuff in it, except it does come with the latest version of Direct X. If you didn't have that installed before, then there could be a conflict there. I wouldn't jump the gun and uninstall SP2 right away, it has some nice protection features that integrate with your AV and Firewall and besides, uninstalling a service pack often causes more problems than it fixes.

Completly agree, which is why I'm not jumping the gun before seeing if these problems can be solved. Thing is, I use messenger elsewhere and it works like a charm.
But these problems have undoubtedly occoured after the SP2 installation. And folks have been reporting all kinds of issues with it.

Well, your graphic card issues must not be SP2 related IMO. I say this, because I have an older Geforce 2 MX400. I have Messenger installed, and I don't have any problem. I don't recommende to unistall SP2. Instead, I recommend to do a fresh install of Windows, then install SP2. After that install all the drivers, and any other programs you use

Hmm, what if I slipstream my windows cd with sp2? I will keep this in mind if any serious troubles pop up.
It seems (I think) that the messenger issue is solved with 6.2. I'm pretty used to the driver issue noqw =) Just hit ctrl+alt+del to force it to update the screen (on my comp at least).

never had a problem with slipstreaming, i actually had more problems after upgrading to SP2, i'd highly recommend slipstreaming myself, saves you from downloading SP2 everytime you reinstall windows

"Slipstreaming" is integrating a service pack into an install CD. For example if you have the original XP CD, you can slipstream SP2 into that CD (copy the files onto your hard drive and then integrate the service pack, and burn it all back onto a CD). If you google for "slipstream xp sp2" you'll get tons of hits.

Ah. Meaning that SP2 is automatically installed when XP is installed? Sweet.
