What type of computer should I get?
I want to get a computer that will be capable of running the dolphin good. Anyone have any suggestions? Computer name, price, and graphics card info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Such a computer doesn't exist.

You cannot run GC games with good speed in Dolphin (except games which use 2D, ie Bust a move 3000). Just buy a GC instead.

The key words are will be capable of. I have heard something about pentium 5....
There already is a Gamecube in my household, but I am off at college with a crappy tv with no input spots. Could I at least get some recommendations please?
Thanks

The fastest you can get, fastest ATI card/Processor. Won't be fast enough mind you, but it's the best you'll get ;)

btw, it does sound like you are expecting Dolpin to be your Gamecube replacement, and regardless of what PC you get (even a supercomputer) it ain't gonna be that just yet.

Gorxon is correct. There is NO PC capable of emulating GC to it's fullest at this point in time. It's pointless to buy a PC to only be able to use Dolphin anyway, seeing as how it will take years to work functionally with most 3D games.

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
Paying off more than $1000 just to have the cube at the college? I don't think I'd do that... even though it can't run full speed anyway. I'd say you're just as good of buying a better tv.

Yes, but it is SO much fun playing Gamecube on the computer even if it is not to it's fullest extent. My point is I need a better computer than the laptop and 32 megabyte graphics card I have and was looking for suggestions. Thanks Trotterwatch. Do you know how much it will run (moneywise)?

If you want a computer capable of playing games on Dolphin at a speed comparable to the actual machine... well it'd cost a lot; far beyond reasonable.

And don't forget even if you were to obtain the 'Earth simulator' or something similar powerwise, games would still have bugs in the emulator; no save states, etc etc

I am not expecting anything near perfection. I was just looking for names and prices. . . Anyways I found I spent alot more time with the Gamecube emulator than the actual Gamecube when I was at home.

A new tv?

If you really want to go the emulation route, with all of its current pitfalls, check out Falcon Northwest. They're ridiculously expensive, but you'll get close(r) to what you need.

Changing question, what is the fastest best graphics card and computer I can get between 1,000 and 2,000 US Dollars.

"Fastest best Graphics" : X800 XT or 6800 Ultra what you want ;)

"Fastest Computer" : Go to www.alienware.com and take a pick ;)

/edit : Eeek ! Falcon Sytems is a patriot company xD

Seriously though , i wouldn't buy from Falcon systems , the systems look like they're equipped with OEM cooling , and mostly OEM cooling is loud and not that efficient as it "sounds" , know what i mean ? ;)

If you really want the most for your money, nothing beats a custom build. I built the one in my sig last year for a little over $1,000, and at the time was comparable to a $3,000 Dell, but the Dell had only half as much memory, 80 gigs less hard drive room, and didn't have a dvd burner, which mine does, and I was also able to get an HDTV tuner card in there as well. And check out the pic, you won't find prebuild oem machines with cases like mine. :)

Agreed , nothing goes over a custom built PC ! Mine isn't that custom , because it was based on a weak 1,4 Ghz Thunderbird , it has been upgraded until the actual configuration .

Coolcono , you should prefer custom builts before complete systems , if you have someone who can build a PC or if you can do it by yourself , you should take the chance and make a custom machine .

Generalplot , your case looks impressive !

Here's a pic of mine ( not very much ) modded case , and one thing : That brown stripe isn't sh*t ! It's only paint ! :D

I was being intentionally absurd. coolcono seemed to have a "money is no object attitude" about the whole thing. Frankly, I just can't see building a computer around an emulator that's far from complete. Which leads me to...

I agree with the others; build your own. If you don't mind doing a little research, 1-2 grand will get you the parts for a very nice system, plus the satisfaction of assembling it yourself (nothing beats that). Nevermind GC emulation for now, just build a system that will do everything else you need it to do. :)

Thanks Shadow, I had to look high and low for this case, but it was well worth it, even has a backlight in it now. And Knuckles, just in case my point didn't get across, I made my post so that coolcono could see that there were other possibilities than buying an OEM machine, not to spam or show off my toy. I was just trying to add my point of view to the subject on hand, as always, and perhaps this will inspire coolcono to look beyond a "Best Buy" PC. That was ever my intent, and I think it was Shadow's as well.

Thanks for the info.
My next couple of questions would be where to get the parts? Where could I find someone to assemble the computer?

If you live in the US, then Newegg.com is practically unbeatable in price for most components.

I recommend Any Athlon64 Slot 939/nForce3 250GB (or nForce4 if you wait)/GeForce 6800 GT or Ultra/1024MB RAM (2x512MB Dual Channel) for a better experience, probably cost $1000 altogether for those components.

If you live in Europe , Arlt.com is the first choice for quality and a reasonable price . I got about 50% of my party from arlt .
