Well a mate of mine has persuaded me to get one for FFXI, I'll probably splurge on a gold account for that. Plus I'm getting bored of WoW (Although raiding is sweet!).

Nope. There was a lot of speculation about the two accounts, but the official word from Microsoft is as follows.

Connect your Xbox 360 to your broadband connection and get instant access to Xbox Live Silver. Express your digital identity through your Gamertag and gamer card, talk with others using voice chat, and access Xbox Live Marketplace—all right out of the box, at no extra cost. Upgrade to Xbox Live Gold and enter the exciting world of multiplayer online gaming.

So basically, if you've got an Xbox Live account on the existing Xbox, then it will become a Gold account when it gets transfered to the 360.
Greedy microsoft...

To be fair, it is only £40 a year, which equates to something like £3 a month. And I for one would much rather pay that and get a quality online experience with reliable servers, than go on the Playstation NET, which is free, but rubbish.
I'll have to think about that. I might have been a little harsh there...

A statement echoed by many, I would imagine. But I think Microsoft has learnt a lot by the Xbox and I don't think they're dumb enough to think they can charge what they want at launch day. I'm expecting the thing to be between $250 and $300, which I'm sure you'll agree is very reasonable for a launch price.
Yes. A reasonable price, but it might just drop as the two other consoles launch as well. There might just be another console wars at the launches as the users will decide which console is best.

And - worldwide launch too! Hooray, us Brit's won't get fucked up the ass for once! :D
Yay! But I will still import from the US ;) Cheaper games, cheaper consoles, and no hassle to use any region-free stuff.

Only problem there is that I don't think you can use an imported console online in the UK. Not so much of a problem if you don't plan on getting Live, obviously. :)

Definitely getting a Revolution. Have NES, SNES, and N64, but i'm missing the GameCube... I feel I'm missing out on a lot of good games :(. Hopefully a backwards-compat Revo will remedy that. Most likely I will be the sole provider of Nintendo within my group of friends, and given the fun of 4-player N64 even now, it won't be a bad decision.

I won't be getting the PS3, but I fully expect to play it lots. I have multiple friends with Playstation 1's and PS2's and multitaps for both -- bound to be one PS3 buyer there :D

That leaves Xbox 360... if it's not outrageously large and expensive, I might get it as secondary console... Doesn't seem feasible as a 4-player party console. This will all hinge on my money vs. how much I want to play the Project Gotham series (wicked racing, wicked) and Rare games... single-player. Live won't be worth it given how busy with school and work I expect to be. Won't decide until the price drops =)

Now how come?
Looks like I'll have my hands full of expenses this christmas, though...
Probably won't get the xbox 360 for a while, if I'll get it.
