What's new

So what is it with non-english speakers and excessive use of smilies?

Something I've noticed over the years. Someone with a minimal grasp of the english language will heavily pad their posts with smilies. All of their posts. It's too common to be a collection of isolated incidents. I have two theories:

1.) Non-english speakers feel that hundreds of smilies strewn randomly throughout a post will make certain their friendly intentions, so others will be more inclined to help despite the obvious language barrier...

2.) Babelfish automatically adds smilies to its translations (can't say I've witnessed that myself)...

So which is it? ;)

Nah, it's just one of those things - like you can virtually guarantee someone begging for roms or a beta will use this :bye3: smiley.

Usually coupled with either this :plain: or this

I prey, not pray.
It doesn't, and most people don't use babelfish to post in english. If they did then their speech would be even less coherent.

You should be banned! :p
But after you find a ROM, can you give me the link, too? :bouncy:
I'm to silly to search in the internet for some games! :whistling
I have them all on my console, but don't know how A game start or how a bios looks. :saint:
Please, we all be friends, let us share roms.

Very good seeing how it isn't your primary language.

I totally agree with everything said in this thread. I swear they try to make people kill themselves with their idiocy (No, I didn't say that people are idiots because they don't know English).

I guess its simply as in reallife. If you dont know the language very well you resort to sign language, using hands and feet. So, since there are no hands and feet here, you use the smilies.
