Which is your favourite?

As much as I'm in love :inlove: with Double Dash!!, I'm going to have to say that Super Circuit is the best.

Well Super Circuit was nice, had all the Snes tracks included along with the N64 weapons and it's own tracks as well.

The thing is, I haven't spent anywhere near as much time on it as I have Mario Kart 64. Before you say anything, I only started playing Mario Kart 64 about 2½ years ago. I've wasted so many hours on 2,3 and 4 player MK64 it's unreal.

SMK was alright, I played it a lot when it first came out, and it's still nice to play via ZSNES. Not as good as MK:SC IMO though. As most of what's in SMK is included in it.

Finally, we come to Double Dash.
Now, I haven't really played this as much as I should have. I can't give much of an opinion on it, though the 3 player is certainly good, and the 150cc is rock solid, (or maybe I'm shit). I just haven't spent enough time to say this is the best MK.

After all that gibberish, I come to the conclusion that MK64 is the best, though give it a couple of months and a few extensive multiplayer sessions on MK: DD!! and I might change my mind.

What about Diddy Kong Racing? Even though that adventure mode is lame, the racing mode is better than Mario Kart 64.

Nooo!!! I hate Diddy Kong Racing with a passion! The tracks are too short so you can get lap times of 15 seconds on a lot of courses using that Green boost tactic on every zipper. I gave up on it when I released that the Octopus and Dragon were too hard for me to beat despite being a *superb* Mario Karter (just see my Gaming Thread, although I was deseeded by the excellent Plisco, Diablo6662 and Harteex [only just!].) The power-ups are also sub-par in DKR and the multiplayer is as a result pretty boring.

I also didn't like Super Circuit. Beat most tracks in the one-player first attempt, and you got almost nothing to show for your achievements, so I got bored and then turned on F-Zero: Maximum Velocity- much better. Still haven't beaten all the cups on Master yet to unlock Fighting Comet or whatever its called. Unlocking extra stuff makes it damn good - a reason to play.

I suck at Super Mario Kart. Oh well! fun game though!

Now, Mario Kart 64 I adored. Caning family members and friends 40-0 felt good until they all gave up! Still haven't unlocked the Peach Ghost on Royal Raceway... Grrr! The Luigi ghost I beat several times on my actual PAL cart, couldn't quite beat the Mario one (can never do that lame shortcut...) Trashed the one-player mode when I got round to it.

YAHOO!

I'm getting Double Dash this weekend so I'll reserve my vote for now!

Diddy Kong racing was class.
It was much more a 1 player game than MK64 ever was.
I beat TT (the clock) on every single track, 100% the game, nothing left to do. Fucking hard. I was 12 when I did it too.
I can't get anywhere near TT on any courses now, which leads me to believe I need to play games more nowadays...

Oh yeah, I beat MK: SC in about 3 hours, saw everything that there was.
Multiplayer was fun though.

I haven't played DD yet but from what I have played, I went with SC, it has all of the SMK tracks plus new ones, and it's portable, can't beat that!

Since I haven't played the GBA nor the GC version I have to go with the N64 incarnation.

Jaz, I'm gonna get a bba and DD later this week, up for a game?

Hell yeah. Although the beta release of Warp Pipe that supports Mario Kart hasn't been released yet.

When it is, I'm thinking of setting up an ET Tournament. :D

i played double dash all nite over at a friends house saturday to sunday. its probably the best part of the series imo. i hated mk64, it was frustrating as hell (yes, the opponents were blatanly cheating cunts!). the first mario kart was class tho. still my vote is for double dash :)

MKDD is so far the best for me. The cooperative 2 player mode is really nice to have (makes driving the tracks easier and funner). Also, the visuals are very good and there is a variety of multiplayer game modes compared to the Nintendo 64 versions (throw bombs, steal the star, and the classic 3 hits and your're done mode). Man, the only way this game could be perfect is if it had a simple race track editor to make your own tracks and online play comes included with it. Oh well, it still is a great game! Good job Nintendo!

MK64 all the way.

I love the physics, the powersliding, the powerups, but most of all, the adaptive handicapping in multiplayer. I love how you can win on the last lap simply by getting a couple of thunderbolts. :) It makes playing with my younger siblings fun and competitive!

You're saying the computer don't cheat on DD?

Um, I just nearly smashed my controller to pieces because of them cheating fuckers.
They cheat a lot more than they do on Mario Kart 64...

The CPU need to cheat to keep up with my powerslide on every corner tactic! I hate it when I get pipped to the post at the end though!

In Super Circuit and DKR, the CPU don't cheat, so you can get 10 seconds+ clear of second place, so it's a little less fun.

I don't mind about them keeping up, but they take cheating to a whole new level on DD.
I mean, you can drive along fine, and someone goes past at twice your speed. You think, oh alright they must of picked up a mushroom.
Then then fire a shell back at you and hit you, you just keep them in sight, and then another shell from them comes back at you, when you KNOW they haven't picked up any items.
Also, I counted earlier, I was winning on Dino Dino Land, and all of a sudden, someone threw a banana, I hit it, they followed up with a green shell, the next person had a chain chomp which I couldn't get out the way of, then someone smashed a red shell into me, and just as I was getting going, and about to get onto the bridge, some fat bastards came along and knocked me off the edge so I finished 8th.
Piece of shit computer players.

Own them all now, and I think MK64 is better than Double Dash, but not be a whole lot. Double Dash "rewards" crap players too much with good power-ups than MK64 did. DD is still awesome though right up there with the best racers I've ever played. DD is also a little harder than it's N64 cousin (CPU are smarter).

And who could resist the upto 16-player option over 8 GameCubes if you have Broadband Adapters and LAN gizmos... not many people!
