Smiff vs. PJ64 Online

I'm a semi noobie here so forgive me if this has already been addressed. This is more of a question to Smiff, but I think I would like to see what everyone else thinks too.

Why is it that every time I ever hear about PJ64 going online that you (smiff) reply that the idea is "gay". I think certain games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and the like would be awsome, but it seems that the idea is not an option. Is it just one more programming headache that you don't need? Is it just plain impossible to do? I'm not trying to upset you or anything. I'm just curious.

I don't think the idea of NetPlay is particularly 'gay', I was probably talking about it being brought up for the up-teenth time by another person not using the Search feature... the reason you won't see NetPlay in the next version of PJ64 is to do with the PJ64 design philosophy (pretentious? moi?), that is, that nothing goes in that doesn't serve a good solid purpose, and since we can't see a way to make NetPlay work how people would want it to work, it's not happening. Even if we could in theory see how to do it right (and we really haven't spent long on this, so I'm not saying it's impossible!), it still probably wouldn't have happened yet because there's always been something with obviously higher priority to us. Since the source was released there's nothing to stop anyone having a go, but I notice this hasn't happened... probably not a coincidence :p

rom compatibility (need same rom),
lag and latency

You gotta put those 3 into consideration
