Skies of Arcadia - How do you save?

I apologize for the simple question, but I've been experiencing some problems with SoA, Like random lockups and such, I'm just on the first level but I don't know how to save and each time the game locks up I have to start over again, Which is annoying because you can't skip the first cut scene...
