sin and punishment

I'm running Sin and Punishment in 1964 0.9.9. I've tried several different plugins with various settings, and the one that seems to work the best is Rice's 5.5.1, with default settings, in Directx mode. I don't have any of the framebuffer options turned on, I know thats somthing thats pretty much restricted to voodoo users at this point. However, whenever the game has a part with motion blur, it just draws little translucent dots of all different colors randomly all over the screen. You can still see whats going on behind it, but it fills the screen and the black borders. Just wondering if anyone has encountered this or knows anything about it. My specs are in my profile.

Also I noticed that the fog in the first level is way too thick with Rice's, it isnt like that with other plugins.

Put Render to Texture and Basic Framebuffer on . You need that 2 things to get the motion blur effects to work . The graphical artifacts will be gone , too .

Wow, thanks very much for the tip. I didnt know you had to have render to texture on to use frambuffer effects. I enabled them, and it got rid of the artifacts, but it also gave me motion blur. With frameskip on its actually fast enough to keep the sound smooth. Nice. Just out of curiosity, when i hide the framebuffer or render to texture effects, strange things start happening again. There's no way to run this game without either the artifacts or the fancy motion blur?

Try glide64 .5 ran it pretty good.

The above picture is of the motion blur working quite nicely in windowed mode, however in full screen mode, it shows the 1st second or 2 of the motion blur, and then just flickers between 2 frames until the effect ends. At least for me, GLN64 locks up at the menu with framebuffer turned on. I cant get glide64 .5 working for any game/emu it just locks up. I can get it to work with glide64 .7, but if i enable framebuffer it crashes. It confuses me that this effect works so well in windowed mode but not full screen with Rice's. I'm using forceware 56.64, and have tried glide64 .5 and .7 with evoodoo 3.25 and 4.0.

Last I remember GLN64 also ran it well with motion blur.

You're right ^_^ But you have to deactivate hardware FB with GLN64 .

@Maagic : Glide64 crashes on every FB effect when you have to use evoodoo , you need a real voodoo , ummm... good luck finding one ;)

Hm, I've tried everything to get rice's plugin to work in fullscreen w/ framebuffer effects including all resolutions, but not to much avail. The closest I came was with framebuffer and render to texture set to read and write back, that worked, but it adds an epilepsy inducing flashing effect over the whole game. Its so weird. I guess if i want to play this game in full screen I will put the window right in the midde of my desktop and switch to 640 by 480. thanks for the help.

Hmmm... I see this epilepsy triggering flash-effect sometimes on Zelda - Majora's mask , when a sequence with motion blur is on the screen (the mask on the starting screen flashes so , for example) . I think Rice's motion blur is a bit screwy :blink:

Screwy? I wouldn't say that, I'm impressed that Rice got it to work so well at all. I mean most of the game's cinematics are just blacked out without frambuffer in any plugin/emu (except glide64). So I say thanks Rice for advancing the state of the art. Truthfully, ive seen pictures of the game on a real voodoo and i dont think the text at the top of the opening is supposed to say "pressustartubutton". wtg rice!
