Saves disappeared

I'm new to Project64, so I'm not sure what's going on here. I had a perfected save file on Ocarina of Time (in-game save) and was working towards getting everything in Majora's Mask. My friend asked if I could send him Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask since he never got a chance to play them. I thought it would be better to delete my save files on the games before sending them to him, so I made some backup copies of the OOT and MM files and deleted the save files on them.

However, when I loaded up the original copy of MM, I found my save file missing. It was also missing on OOT. I already deleted the backup copies of those. Is there anyway I can get these saves back?

So what you're saying is that you know you deleted all the save files and you still think you can continue in the same place? I'm sure there are sites that have save game files so that's all you can really do.

OK, this is what I did.

I created a "Games" folder in my Project 64 folder. Inside the "Games" folder are OOT and MM. The OOT in that folder has a save file with everything on it and 0 deaths (I got everything in the game). The MM in that folder has a save file that almost has everything on it and 0 deaths.

My friend asked if I could send him OOT and MM. I decided it was best that he didn't see my save files and that he should play through the game himself. So what I did was right click on the OOT and MM in the "Games" folder and hit "copy". I then pasted them on my Desktop. Then I opened Project 64 and loaded the OOT and MM files from my Desktop (the copies) and deleted the save files on there. Then I sent them to my friend. A while later, I felt like finishing up MM so I opened Project 64 and loaded the MM from my "Games" folder only to discover that the save file was missing. Thinking that I must have deleted the save file from the wrong MM, I checked the one on my Desktop. It too was gone. I then checked both OOTs. They were both gone.

Everything that I finished was all gone thanks to that little incident. So tinkering with the backups does the same to the originals? Right now, I no longer have the backups from the Desktop. They have been deleted. Is there anyway I can retrieve the save files from the OOT and MM that are located in my "Games" folder?

No, I did not delete the save files from the original files located in the "Games" folder. They just disappeared along with the backups.

There are numerous of recover utilities on the web that can help you recover them hopefully. I wouldn't have deleted them in the first place, though. And didn't you throw them into the recycle bin?

You don't understand what he means! He probably used the in-game delete file option. What he doesn't know is that the save data ain't stored in the ROM file itself.

lol, bingo

PJ64 maintains a single, external save file per game, regardless of how many copies you have of that game. Your saves are gone Illuminati.

I can only say it's about the best site on the web for saves you'll find. You can always replay, though.

lol, that's pretty funny, but also really, but you might be able to find a complete save on gamefaqs.com

You can cheat, but you still have to play the game. Illuminati wants to get to the part where he was, but not play the game again. Then u would need a game save.

I no longer need any help on this. Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions. I have perfected Ocarina of Time once again and am now further than I was before in Majora's Mask.
