hello does anybody know if chankast has any problems with being run off a SATA hard drive? Maybe it thinks its SCSI but it is not,or something. recently my HD went ,so i got a SATA unit. installed it all just fine and now chankast doesnt work. "chankast has generated errors"

oddly it will play off a burned CD with ASPI xxx. but will crash
it used to run aspi for 2000 with the IDE , i have 2000 for a OS.

i have intalled the aspi updates and such a bunch of times ,mounted with deamon ,alcholol. im thinking this is a SATA conflict. has anybody else got the same problem?

Chankast works fine with SATA hard disks.
Try the xxx CD-ROM interface to see if the emulator will crash with it (you won't be able to play games with the xxx CD-ROM interface on Windows 2000); If it doesn't crash then there is a conflict between the IDE drivers and the ASPI drivers; If it still crashes then there is something wrong with your video card drivers.

thanks for your quick reply.

yes when i switch to the xxx cdrom driver it doesnt crash, but is also not playable.how would i solve a conflict between the IDE drivers and the ASPI drivers? is that the aspi layer update/4.60bruntime? that is done and correct, verified through the check. are there different aspi updates to get for a sata system?

i have a asus A7n8e-delux board /3000barton/radeon powerspec9250se 128MB

Instructions on how to solve the conflict are on the Chankast FAQ (check the question related to windows 2k).

ok i read them . i thought that my ide drivers stayed the same. changed to standard dual channel. run program, the same. no work. the standard dual channel took the place of my ide thing(wish i wrote its name down),now i have 3 ide things in the catagory. ? . do i disable all but one? do to some errors i tried to change back and windows found the same standard ide controller to suit it best.

what a can of worms i opened. i now have many differ intermittent OS errors

it used to work so nice, wish i bought the damn EIDE!

The emulator should work with the ASPI CD-ROM interface now. Are you sure that you uninstalled the correct driver?
If you're using the latest nvidia Nforce drivers you can also uninstall the IDE drivers from the control panel (add or remove programs) without the need of removing the rest of Nvidia's drivers.
Since you're having problems try to reinstall (or roll back to) Nvidia's driver and then uninstall it from the control panel (add or remove programs).
With a little luck this will fix the problem and you'll be able to use the emulator.

EDIT: During the installation of the Nforce drivers you're asked if you want to install nVidia's custom IDE drivers; If you choose not to install them then the "regular" nVidia's IDE drivers will be installed. These drivers may work and you won't be forced to use the ones that come with windows.
So you simply have to run the Nforce driver installer and everything will (hopefully) work.

That's when a single mistake can f*ck your PC up... You probably uninstalled the wrong driver and it acted like a chain on the other hardware parts :\

the new nforce driver solved many intermintent issues.

im doing something wrong in the manager when i switch to standard IDE(it automatically makes 3 controllers,i still dont know if this is normal?). then nothing works, and i have to install all me hardware again, errors out the wazzooo.

right now its back to working fine, just no chankast. i know its the IDE conflict i just dont have the knowledge to fix it

Just install the Nforce drivers (the ones from the link I gave you) and when the installer asks you to install the custom IDE drivers choose "NO". Normal drivers will be installed and Chankast will work :)
