Running Resident Evil 2

Hi,

I am trying to run Resident Evil 2 on Project 64 Emu. However it doesn't work at all and it produces only a black screen and garbled sound. The Browser notes say it is partly supported but suffers Core WTF problems. Has anyone managed to get the game to run on P64 or other emulators and if so what graphics plugins and configuration are required? I am also having graphics problems with Quake 64 and Quake 2 and Star wars Episode 1 racer using the default plugins and I would appreciate any help with these games as well.

Many thanks.

RE2, Quake and Quake 2 are all native PC games, suggest you use them.
Star wars Episode 1 racer should work alright, what's your problem with that?
actually that's also a PC game isn't it? although this doesn't directly answer your Q, you haven't provided good enough details to do that. it looks like you haven't read the documentation either.

so.. please start again, read the documentation, then come back and post a useable question, sorry to be harsh but this kind of thing gets boring.

um...problem with episode 1 racer is the menus which have no text. Game itself runs ok. If you mean P64 documentation I have read most of it although I have not memorized it.
Incidentally, what is the point of an emulation website if you simply tell people to go and play the PC versions?

if it looks like someone doesn't want to go through the hassles of emulation it's the easiest route to making them happy.

system specs please.

First off, the best results for _video_ with RE2 can be achieved with Glide64 0.8 and zeckenseck's glide wrapper. I'm not sure who is working on the sound, since PJ64 rsp was the only one that worked for me and it was garbled anyway. Since I don't see a PJ64 1.6 service pack coming soon, I think that our best bet for RE2's sound is Azimer, since he was working on games that used the MusyX audio system, but when I tried his latest plugin (0.56 WIP2 in the apollo forum) I got no sound in RE2. Maybe in his next release Azimer will work on this game. That was pretty much all I know about emulating RE2.

Thanks very much for that detailed answer, CF2. Much to consider there.
Incidentally my spec is: Athlon 1.6+, 256mb RAM, Geforce 4 MX420, win XP.

I been experimenting with RE2. My results mainly are sound problems. I been using Jabo's Direct3d8 1.6, Directsound 1.6, and Direct input 7 1.6. I can achieve normal sound for a brief couple seconds. It then turns to garbled sound. On Video, no problems with rendering. The game only uses half of the monitor using only the left side. Then again I am using a Toshiba Satellite (laptop). My video card and sound card are not as fully equipped as it would be on desktop confusers.

The garbled sound in Resident Evil 2 has to do with issues with PJ64's default RSP plugin. If you can find it via a search, Rice made an unofficial RSP plugin specifically to solve the white noise issue with the 1.4 source. Note to back up the existing (overall newer and more compatible) RSP plugin since PJ64 has no way of changing RSP plugins via the GUI, so it has to be named RSP.dll and put in the plugin folder.

I haven't checked up if other combinations of 1964's built-in RSP/Hackarux RSP with different sound plugins work better with the game, but I tend to download every plugin until I find the best setup if I feel that strongly about playing a game.
