Resident Evil 2 problems

ok im having serious problems with this game. first i had it working, stopped working, got it to work again, now it stopped again. can someone recommend the best plugins/configuration for it? also, the game wont run at all using the default audio plugin, but zilmar's turns it into crap.

geforce 4 mx 400
768 mb
