Fraps can be acquired from fraps.com. Program is shareware, but for a small free, you'll remove all restrictions.

Hmm... are there any restrictions or cripples in the sound recording or video recording portion of the freeware version? I tried recording a StarCraft cutscene, but it only recorded for 30 seconds with no sound...

Yes, I believe it can record for only a minute or so, limited resolution, and you can only capture images to bmp or something. It also adds a watermark, that tells you the video was recorded with fraps, I believe.
Fraps costs $37 to register. All upgrades are free, so it's a one-time registration.

My only beef is that when you make the video files they are SO BIG.
Is there a way with Fraps to do it in a smaller formet?

What prevents you from encoding the video to XviD or H.264 afterwards?

Compressing video is a very time consuming process. Recording and compressing on-the-fly is something most computers cannot handle. When you've recorded with FRAPS, you should re-encode the files with a lossy codec. Remember, FRAPS uses a lossless codec that gives some compression at fast speeds.
