Reactions to ReactOS

ReactOS is an amazing project, I've been following it for a few years now and it's been great to see it grow as it has.

However, anyone expecting it to be good as a quick replacement for a usable operating system is probably going to be dissapointed. It's still very much at an alpha stage of development, while you can do a few things with it (play some games, run various app's, surf the net, etc..) its not stable/optimised/compatible enough for someone to use for much more than testing.

With time I'm sure this will change and it'll have more 'real world' use, I look forward to the time when ReactOS is at the stage of general type usablity :) At the moment I'm enjoying watching/using as it grows.

I think it is a great project, if I had more time I would be interesting in helping it out .. but I have more then enougth projects for now.

Hopefully they will end up with a strong compatible version to win 2k .. something light and free

Cool, man! It's interesting the things than these people does!

Until some people has said than it has elements of Windows 95 (surely than Microsoft saids that, it's not a business for them)

On January 17, 2006 Hartmut Birr wrote a message on the ReactOS Developers mailing list (ros-dev) with the accusation that ReactOS contains code derived from disassembling Microsoft Windows

That's why they are having a code audit atm :) To find any questionable code and fix it up if the need be.

I've been following the project for a few months since I became aware of it and I'm really looking forward to more advancements, as I'm not much of a M$ fan, and Linux is still a little too intimidating to me. (Not to mention, playing Windows games on Linux is not always possible, despite some good efforts to write Windows compatibility layers for Linux.)

It's amazing how these guys are catching up in a few months that they're making something revolutionary and free so people can get it anywhere. These guys still need extra help though and needs more people. I would try to help by testing it and sending feedback but I'm too busy doing stuff.
