OK Now I finally going to buy the things.

Since the RAM sticks survived I won't build a Core 2 Duo system and DDR2 is still too expensive for me. I can't go for AM2 because of the same reason. That's why I'm staying with socket 939 for now. I'm planning to buy an Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice Core) and the ASUS A8N5X mobo.

Since my AGP card will be incompatible with the new motherboard I will sell it and replace it with a new 7600GS card. This card is factory overclocked at 500 Mhz (7600GS stock clock is 400 Mhz) and it has passive cooling. That's good for a guy like me that hates noise. Also it has 12 pixel pipes and 5 vertex ones, so I think is kinda good.

What do you guys think? what do you recommend?

Yes I readed that a while ago, however since this is an emergency upgrade I will go for the 3200+. It's a shame that the fried 3000+ was priced at $160 a half year ago. If I has that money again I would go for the X2 3800+ indeed.

what are you looking to spend ? i've got a buddy wanting to get rid of a 3200/nf7s-v2, gig of ram/geforce 6800gt

its about a year old and never oc'd.

Yeah it is a shame you havent got the money for an X2, still the regular A64s are still very good CPUs and tbh nothing major is taking advantage of dual core CPUs

Might as well go for the 3000 over the 3200, performance is practically the same for a cheaper price. nothing overclocking cant fix ;)

Those components look good to me; I can personally vouch for that motherboard, as it's the one in my current PC. Are you sure you can't wait just a few days? The price cuts should take place right about when the Conroe debuts in less than a week.

Isnt that what building computers is all about? I mean you wait for the deals, and pick up your parts when you get the best deals. Not just going to the store and buying all the components. Thats what dell and alienware does (except they buy them in a higher quantity.) You can save hundreds on a system by just waiting a few weeks for all the parts, and get them when the deals are good.

Anyone interested, there is also a 30$ AR Athlon 64 3300 sock754.

Good price Literish, but since I'm in Costa Rica I can't use the mail-in rebate.

I'm buyig at Amazon because I'm unable to buy at stores like Newegg or Zipzoomfly. However I'm getting good deals there. In fact the videocard is cheaper than newegg.
The prices are the following:

dude... i know a place in which you can get very cheap hardware
it's called TECH or something, it's in Cartago, the bad thing is that i don't have the phone number right now, but i'll ask for it tomorrow, i'll post it as soon as i can.
i was going to get a video card there but i couldn't because my motherboard doesn't have either AGP or PCI-E ports so i had to buy a new one and i didn't have enough money. Though it's pretty cheap there, i'll post the phone number tomorrow

I don't know if you bought anything yet, but if any of the items that died were retail, why don't you try RMAing them? Except for maybe the PSU, I don't htink you'd have too much trouble doing so.

After Aeons, I finally bought all the parts. I know it's been a while, I just ordered the mobo and CPU.

The rig specs will be:

Athlon 64 3800+ Socket 939 Venice core (939 dual core has insane prices)
MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard
3Dfuzion Geforce 7600GS
1.5 Gb DDR400 RAM (two surviving 256 dimms and two new 512 dimms)
Seagate 80 Gb SATA HDD (surviving one)
NEC ND-3520A DVD-RW drive (survivor)
Floppy (survivor)
Other stuff...

Sorry for the lurking...
