Quick Controller Question

Hey everyone, new guy here. Anyway........

I use Project 64 and 1964 with the N-Rage input plugin with a Saitek P880 controller, and the analog stick doesn't behave quite like an N64 one would. Take Conker's BFD for example.....with any range setting above 25 all I can do is run, below that and all I can do is walk....dead zone doesn't matter. I did set up a modifier to toggle between the two for the time being, but it's annoying and makes multiplayer with all it's precise weapon aiming very difficult. So I was wondering if I were to get one of those N64 controller to USB adapters would the stick work like it would on the N64 or would I still have to use the modifier?

I did quite a bit of searching on the subject and I couldn't find an answer to that paticular question, so I apologize if it has been covered. Oh. and yes it is calibrated correctly.

The analog stick should work normally on any controller. Is there an analog/digital toggle on yours perhaps? Sounds like your stick is acting like a digital input.

Yes, there is an a/d button, but all that does is switch between the d-pad and analog stick. I mean I can run, and I can walk, just not at the same time if you know what I'm saying....I need to use my modifier toggle button to do that. I got through the entire game no problem, just walking along very narrow paths is tricky. I tried Jet Force Gemini but aiming is so hard like this I gave up.

Sounds like you've covered all the bases. Did you try calibrating again? Maybe it didn't take the first time (yeah, I'm grasping at straws). Defective controller perhaps? Beyond that I'm stumped.

The only thing left I suppose is to try other controllers, and try your controller on another computer.

Yeah, I tried recalibrating a few times....nothin. And I know the controller is good cause it works just fine on PC games. Not a huge deal though. I'll try the usb adapter I guess but I just want to make sure that will work so I'm not throwing money away.

The analog stick on a genuine N64 pad *should* work fine when using an adapter. Keep in mind that the more common Boom adapter tends to be flaky, especially with N64 pads. See the sticky in this forum if you haven't already. If you have the cash (and can find one) the Adaptoid is a better buy.

I forgot to ask, did you try Jabo's input plugin? A long shot again, given that N-Rage's is a quality plugin, but just to eliminate every possibility...

Yeah, I did read about the problems some people have with the Boom one. And actually if I did get it I would have to find another N64 controller as well as apparently the grey ones don't work with it....just my luck.

And yes, I tried Jabo's plugin as well....no difference.

Thanks though.
