PS3 vs Xbox 360

I don't think this will make or break either console, but it's definitely going to be a potential problem for the 360 and Wii. The current (previous?) gen proves that media size matters. Many games that I would have prefered to buy for the GC I bought for the PS2 instead because too many compromises were made for the GC's smaller discs (reduced texture quality, heavily compressed audio). Sure, you could solve the problem with a multi-disc release, but that increases cost, and I'm sure that many developers will opt to squeeze everything possible on a single disc with reduced quality. I'm no fan of Blu-Ray, and Sony's real motives are obvious, but from a gaming standpoint it's a step in the right direction.

I don't see the problem with multiple discs. A discs costs what, $1? A BD disc costs way way than two or three DVD discs.
With today's powerful systems, it's possible to use compressed material and uncompress on the fly. The only thing I can see BD useful for is movies. The new consoles (360 & PS3) have made big sacrifices to keep the cost down. Too big textures won't fit into memory, etc.

Neither do I, as multiple discs have tended to up the costs for everything BUT video games. But as the lifecycle of the consoles move along, game developers may be longing for the space that Blue Ray provides vs a DVD or even several DVD's. Blue Ray will get cheaper over time as well.

So, I see this as more of a down the road issue.

I honestly don't know what the Wii is doing - are they using DVD or some other proprietary format again?

PS3: What the Cell is Going On? from 1UP.com

It sounds like it's all FUD, but the Why 1UP Ran This Comparison Feature section at the end makes some good points. Frankly, I doubt we'll see many differences in the multi-platform releases (Wii versions notwithstanding). Developers took the "least common denominator" route with the PS2/GC/Xbox, and I'm sure they'll do the same this gen.
