WELCOME to EmuTalk underdog :) :)

I'm no forum master, but given my observations and experiences, you'll want to ask that question but start a new thread for it so that more ppl will see it.

an advantage of having it at $20 rather than $5 is we only get poeple who really care on the site, which is better for us and for other donators.

edit:
the point, we have tried to make clear, is that you are not buying a piece of software, you are donating toward project64 development. then you have the option of using new versions if you like before they go public. so its just a good way to help each other out, and i don't want to pressure people into it at all. but we're definately not going to drop the suggested amount because what would that achieve?

Sometimes explaining all that I feel like you're wasting your time. People like him well never get the whole emualtion scene. You guys made a great piece of software and I gladly donated to the cause. I hope you keep it up.

it is actually done automatically, just sometimes the mail goes missing or takes a long time to send. Sometimes I need to look in to it and get it to recreate the account that will send the email as well. I also get a copy of the email so if I get it and the user doesn't then I can forward it. I hope you enjoy the access you now get

I dont really mind this setup, people who are developing software deserve to be paid to do it, and clearly it is illegal to charge for such an emulator, but this beta test donation thing strikes me as backwards. There is no motivation for the developer to actually release v1.7. The second that happens, no more donations. So it seems to me that this will be in beta for another year, and another year after that forever because the truth is, they simply discovered a loophole in copywrite law.

without the donations setup, it's unlikely there would ever be another version. jabo especially has never been very fussed about releasing, and it would be in beta for years anyway, just like the last few versions. the changes are huge, even bigger this time, there's a major core rewrite going on right now (the 2nd just since 1.6, there was another one which wasn't working out. all of 1.0 to 1.6 were basically one core). you don't start fiddling around in there unless theres a very good reason, and say goodbye to weeks of free time and thought every time you (zilmar) start something like that.
so the numbering system is very misleading in that way.

the only way to speed the next "done" version up a lot (like from years down to months) would be to get so many donations zilmar and jabo can give up their jobs and work on it fulltime. not likely to happen, but every donation is motivation. i say that again. every donation is motivation. this is really important because some of this stuff is very hard and very tedious. and at this stage there are not many "who can be the 1st to run game x" moments left. its like the long crawl up the plateau. or something.
i think originally zilmar said he had in mind late 2007 and that hasnt changed, but its done when its done and this setup gives us a chance to do things well.

it actually works both ways - there is pressure on us to deliver to those who donate which we wouldn't have without them. and what they like, is roughly the same as what most people will like.

this is a huge huge project, especially for a small team (basically 2 people with bits of help here and there). maybe sometimes people forget. its not as hard as say an operating system, but its probably as hard as somethng like a web browser. how many people do mozilla and opera have? frankly (knowing how many bugs there have been to fix, etc.) it still amazes me it even got to where 1.6 is. jabo could get run over by a bus and then we're f**ked. i am not joking, i try to hurry things along just on that basis (that and we only live 60-80 years, etc). so the money is an issue, but its also not an issue.
right hmm is that a deep enough answer. i don't know where zilmar stands exactly but thats how i see it.

Ok well assure us of this: it will be released, eventually, and the abillity to become a beta tester through donation will stop significantly before a release is made.

-or at least the intention truely exists

when a public release is planned, I will make it well know publicly before hand.

your right there is not much need for me to do public releases, I do plan to make this public at some stage, most likely when I have finished working on it, so probaly a final release. My goal in making it public is more about how good it is then based on time. If I got enougth donation that I could work on this full time then a public version would come out soon. Since I am working on this in my spare time, things take a lot longer. When a release is likely I will probaly run a period of testing that we can make sure all things are stabalized and there is not other work that needs to be done. If I am not actively developing then it is not right for me to ask people to support in the development and there is none.

yeah the intention is definately to get this done and make it public. but atm that looks so far away its hard for me to even think about yet. yes, one of the first things we said when planning donation setup was we have to warn people in plenty of time when a release is coming so no one feels cheated, as a few people did at v1.4. that was more careless (i.e. we're busy worrying about bugs) not malicious. we have a better structure now, things are going ok.

I really hope the slowdown while swiching weapons in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark gets fixed. Also theres random lag in Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 thats probably a core issue.

I'm hoping (but with no hard expectations of course) that the video issues in Gauntlet Legends gets fixed. It's just no fun to play as is

I keep meaning to donate like at least £20, but something else keeps coming up. Hope I'll get around to donating soon though. :)

Milo-

I have useless information
I want to ask a question:

What would be the minimum specs for this version of the emulator?

Look, i want to know because if im going to make a donation of 20$ i really want it to be worth it, my PC already has some problems with the pixel shaders (Absence of them =P) it was alright for the version 1.5, but as i have seen that many plugins are starting to require pixel shaders, may be is not a very good idea to donate so much money.

Dont take me wrong, i look at the PC specs of most of you and you guys are very rich compared to me, for me 20$ is not a huge amount, but it's considerable, also, i may have some problems donating to you (im 16 years old, so no credit card for me or anything like that)

so if my PC is not going to run the next version as good as i want it to (like version 1.6) why should i donate so much?

maybe i will donate in a future, but it wouldn't be 20$ it would be less but at least it would show you my apreciation of ur Job =P

I think, that if your specs are low, you should wait for the final release. Right now, it is beta, or maybe WIP stage, which means that the final specs are not final and that things may be slow due to not optimized.
Getting a new gfx card could help with your pixel shader problem. There might be a card in your budget. Perhaps if you start a new thread and give your budget, some may help you.
And it would help if you put your specs in your profile.
