Project 64 lagging

I have just installed P64 1.6 and have tried various different roms and they all will play fine for a few seconds and then begins to lag. The video and sound become choppy. If you pause and then go back it will be fine again and then a few seconds later will start lagging. I am using Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6; Jabo's DirectSound 1.6. I have also tried changing the video plugin to Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2. with no luck. I have a ATI Radeon Mobility 9800 graphics card. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Might be a cache problem?
Seems it runs fine until you have too much video information stored.

Not sure though, just a thought

Have you tried to enable "sync game to audio" in the audio settings?

Thanks for the suggestions, however neither of those seemed to fix the problem lain: Any other ideas??

the rest of your specs? Processor, OS, RAM, sound card, etc.?

Pentium 4 3.4 GHz with HT
Win XP SP1 - fully patched
1GB DDR RAM at 533MHz
SigmaTel C-Major Audio
This is a Dell XPS laptop btw

hmm, it should be quite sufficient. All i can suggest for now is to be sure to update your drivers. The default plugins should be sufficient.

mmmmm thermal problems?

all drivers are up to date, and I don't have any trouble with any graphics intensive games, so I don't think its thermal
