Project 64 for PSP

I am a big fan of Project 64 and the people behind such a brilliant emulator.. There truly is no other team which has produced a N64 emulator quite as impressive... I have Project 64 on all 3 of my computers and i also run it on my xbox. I recently bought a PSP and noticed that Project 64 has not yet decided to create a N64 emulator for this great system..

I understand that my testimony alone will not be enough to persuade the gods of emulation to consider such a project, however i hope that others will provide some insentive as to why this emulator should be made and that there is no other emulator quite like Project 64..

Is this a possibility?

Or will i have to go on dreaming about playing the ocarina of time on my portable system...

I don't know what the Project64 team is currently doing, right now it seems the project is about to come out of a yearlong hiatus. I'm sure they'd like to finish the 1.7 version before they start something like this. If they feel like doing more work on the emulator once they consider it finished... I'd be sick of it, personally.

Have you checked out Daedalus?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/daedalus-n64/

N64 emulation on the PSP is pretty bad though.

thankyou and we are aware of Daedalus on the PSP.. and we are grateful for the work that has been put into the emulation of N64 on the PSP so far...

but we would be overjoyed if Project 64 would consider this as their next endeavour.. After the completion of their current project of course...

Mupen64Plus Dev.
Project 64 can't and won't (any time soon) run on the PSP for various reasons. Development is in a halt situation (sort of) for one. Secondly, A lot of code has to change for it to work right on the MIPS processor, needing to write a new Dynamic recompiler. Plus, Project 64 is very integrated into the Windows OS making it hard to do a full porting.

You'd have more luck with an Open emulator like Mupen64 or Mupen64Plus, but it will have a lot of the same problems as Project64. The only difference is people might try... But then again, there isn't exactly a huge demand for an N64 emulator to run on a PSP.

It is so unfortunate that the demand for a good N64 emulator on PSP is so low... why do most of us not crave the ability to travel with some of our most beloved games (clearly we can atm using our laptops, but you cant exactly fit a laptop in your pocket)

I understand that Project 64 as an emulator is basically constructed around windows, and i do not believe a straight port is smart or necessary. I am more interested in the members which created such a remarkable emulator to work some more magic around a new system...

I myself lack the skills to help in such a transformation of data but i know that people with the ability desire this sort of challenge... but thankyou nmn for ur suggestions about Mupen 64, i pray that some1 is willing to try...

i hope that this will be taken seriously and that many more ppl will rally to this cause..

thanks again everyone

At your service, dood!
I hate to burst your bubble but no matter how many people rally to the cause its never going to happen, not by the official authors anyway... they've got better things to do than port it to every console imaginable.

Theres nothing stopping people from downloading the 1.4 source and making a port of their own if they think its possible.

Furthermore, the PSP is nowhere near fast enough to run an n64 emulator properly, so as much as you want to travel with your most beloved games, its simply not feasible to expect it ever.

Also you do realize it specifically says in the rules thread of this forum that *ahem*

"DO NOT ask for a port to any platform."

I am dreadfully sorry if you believed i was asking for a port of Project 64 to be made for the PSP, that would definately be lunacy.. I was suggesting a whole lot more than that. I believe that emulators ported to the PSP are a waste of time and that they would need to be constructed purely for the console itself...

It feels to me that you loved "bursting my bubble" with your pessimistic views of such an idea. But my faith stems from the N64 emulation currently running well on the PSP, and that through the superior programming skills of the people responsible for Project 64, we may see something beautiful on the PSP..

Call me a dreamer all you like, and even if nobody with the ability to make this dream of mine come true considers it... I could only humbly request for this to be made...

man this would be awesome, im with you.. but the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo officially releases its N64 hits on its next generation handheld. Its bound to happen eventually.

at least some1 thinks its a good idea to have these games handheld!!
I was so surpirsed when most people were against the idea, happy to simply sit bak and remark on how useless emulation of N64 is on PSP at the moment..

I hope the nintendo will release a handheld capable of playing the classic games of our generation, because N64 had some of nintendo's greatest hits in its entire history.

So if it is indeed impossible to emulate games like ocarina of time and super smash bros (which is working on the PSP at the moment but it is simply playable and not enjoyable for framerate reasons)... Then please dismiss wat i am suggesting.

However if some1 believes that it can be done then please give us dreamers some assurance. thankyou

I didn't say it wouldn't be awesome. I just said that the team probably wouldn't go for it.

Sorry everyone. I must have been so blind and stupid to come on here and think of requesting something so riduculous... I understand now that this forum is not for telling the programmers (who enjoy making N64 emulators) wat the public would like to see but possibly these forums are simply to give them praise, which of course they deserve...

I enjoy the Project 64 emulator which was made by a great team of programmers. thankyou for all of the hard work put in for our gaming enjoyment...

Again sorry for misunderstanding that this site was not the right place to request for programmers to program a new emulator, which is very much needed, for all who enjoy portable gaming

Well duh, hence why NO PORT SUGGESTIONS/REQUESTING is listed in the rules topic..

perhaps instead of repeating urself it would be helpful for u to point me in the direction for where a request like this would be valid...

or is there no way of contacting the programmers of the emulator with requests?

You could ask him/them face to face. Take 'em out to lunch, buy them presents (I recommend big-ticket items like HDTVs and cars)...sexual favors (worth a try).

Or, just live with what you have. It's their project and they'll do things their way, on their time.

you may be interested in the Open Pandora, Its a soon to be released home brew and emulation console that is around 2* as powerful as the PSP.
http://openpandora.org/,
it is possible that full speed N64 emulation may be available some time in the future on the pandora.
