So the graphics unit is not removeable? This explains the reason I can't seem to find those chips for sale individually =P.

That can be one of the main reasons ^^

I'm just wondering if there's any remedy for this other than buying a new laptop? I don't mind not playing games in it anymore, I just want the scroll lag to go away =/.

Ii would be really strange if the graphics chip was damaged without any reason. You haven't checked the BIOS settings? Look at the manufacturers site and see if you can find the orginal drivers.

The scroll lag exists because Windows is slow. Having a hardware accelerated graphics card is what removes this "scroll lag". Is there any way you can install a new graphics card into that laptop?

this series of mobility and the actual model of laptop has been known to just randomly die.

apparently Sony switched from ATI to NV in newer versions of the same laptop and the problem was fixed :(

That's what I'm not sure about, I haven't been able to find any video card by the name "Mobility Radeon 9700" for sale other than laptops with it. I'll open it tonight and search for the vid card.

Mobiliy Radeon is not a video card, it's an integrated chip AFAIK and intended for laptop use. Hence why you won't find it anywhere if you are just looking for a card.

To Solve the problem with Direct 3d Follow this:
a>Ensure you have direct X 9

b>Go to Start > Click on Run >type the word 'dxdiag' >Click on Run

c>Go to the Display Tab on the Dialog box that appears.

d> Click on Test Direct 3D.After the test you will find the Direct 3D Enable option available >enable and test Direct 3D.

e>also enable the AGP Texture Acceleration.

Now try the Project 64 Emulator.Tell me whether it worked
