Yep

Yea, that driver is the one that is on my laptop right now (6.5 Mobility Catalyst). And it still doesn't allow me to enable directdraw and direct3D =(. I'm so confused by this...

It's a vgn-s360, I have downloaded every single driver they have there (both original and updated) and the only one that gives me a problem is the video card one. I re-downloaded the chipset driver INDOTH-00446101-US.EXE to make sure, and yes it is installed and the problem persists with no Direct3D =/ and with omega drivers, catalyst mobility drivers (the link provided a few posts before this one).

The intel processor is an Intel Pentium M Processor 1.70Ghz. Been trying to find updated drivers for it but I can't seem to find them on intel's website.

ok heres what i want ya to do.

Download Drivercleanerpro

uninstall your video drivers, and motherboard drivers and reboot into safe mode, then run driver cleaner pro, select the Radeon/Catalyst option and allow it to clean all old drivers from your machine. then select the intel option if it is in there and clean them off.

then install the latest Intel Chipset drivers which you can get here
http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/855pm/tools.htm

then install the latest radeon mobility driver set.

the system you have there is based on the 855 family, the Intel P M processor is compatible with this board, its part of the Centrino family of portable wireless notebooks.

I did all of what you said and am still encountering a problem, though this round of fixes after downloading the 6.5 mobility radeon drivers and restarting my computer, the computer increased the resolution on its own to 1280x800 60mhz, but direct3D, agp texture acceleration, and directdraw are still not available and am still lagging when scrolling.

this is a very interesting issue then.

it honestly sounds like something mght be damaged in the laptop.

possibly the gpu.. but im not convinced just yet. theres gotta be a fix.

Same thing I'm saying =(. Alright, let me write word for word how this error occured.

I was playing Mario Kart 64 with Project64 Emulator 1.6. All of the sudden, the game started lagging (It had never lagged before). Then my computer crashed, I restarted it and then the blue screen of death came up, but I couldn't read it as it went away in 2 seconds. Then I logged into my google homepage and started searching for updated drivers, I had recently updated all of my drivers, so I didn't find any new ones. Then I noticed my scrolling was very very laggy. I restarted my computer once more and the blue screen came up again, once again only staying up for 2 seconds. I uninstalled my sony.com video card drivers and installed the Omega ones (6.3), that also didn't fix the problem, I uninstalled those and installed the sony.com ones again, after prompting me to reset, the blue screen came up again. That's when I reformated my computer and we're up to this point of endless driver deletion and reformating =(.

How can we surely be sure? =P Haven't been able to find any software that detects it, as device manager hasn't found anything wrong, but obviously something is very wrong =/.

well the gpu actually has a register that tells whether its capable of D3d or not. and if that register is damaged it causes these problems.

and memtest can test your ram.

but im really leaning towards a failing graphics chip :(

i'll do some checks to see if theres anyone with similar issues

hmm.. it doesn't look too good..
i just found this

There is a curious problem that has started up with my ATI mobility radeon 9700 PRO 64 mb graphics card. The display driver keeps on failing or running into an infinite loop at random times, whether I am working on Microsoft Word, surfing the Internet, or playing a computer game. This inevitably forces me into unworkable 640x480, 8-bit display mode or just freezes my computer screen, and I have to hard restart. ATI and Microsoft did not provide any support online, and I could not find an updated display driver. To remedy this problem, I had to set my color settings to Medium (16 bit) instead of High (32 bit) in my Display options since setting the hardware acceleration to None didn't solve the problem. I am still skeptical about this issue, and hope that it doesnt bother me anymore after changing the color settings. Now that the S series laptops have NVIDIA graphics, I don't think this is a problem anymore.

I hope it's within its warranty period, because you probably won't find a fix for it. I've had a graphics card's VRAM become damaged for no reason, and that's what caused me to spend more time studying and less time on games.

THe warranty ended about a year ago =(. Indeed, this happened for no reason, as project64 is not that graphically intense to fry anything in my laptop, it just randomly failed... =/

I forgot to ask, is it even possible to change the graphics unit in the vgn s360 VAIO? I'm thinking of taking it into Best Buy and have them try to fix it, unless there's a way to fix the part of the Registry you're talking about, Squall?

There's no harm in trying, but I don't think that anyone would want to be bothered trying to fix a graphics card with a hardware problem. When I was in your situation my warranty had also expired a year ago. :(
