Problems with Direct3D

Hi guys!

I have just installed Project64 version 1.5 but I can´t play. I receive the message "Direct3D failed to intialiaze your HAL device. Make sure you have a properly configured 3D graphics card compatible with Direct3D 6.0". }

I have the ATI Radeon 9200 SERIES graphic card with the last version of Catalyst and Directx9.

Does anybody have the same problem? Please, help me to fix this, I´m crazy to play. : )

Sorry about poor English, I´m from Brazil. :bouncy:

First, use 1.6, not 1.5 unless you have a very good reason not to use 1.6.

What graphics plugin are you using? Run dxdiag and check if the Direct3D test passes.

ATI Radeon 9200 is not compatible with 1.5. I know it because I have the same card (see my sig).

As Agozer said, upgrade to 1.6 and select Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 or Rice's video.

It is, but depending on driver revision, it can take some tweaking to work.

Generally if you have a program such as Rage3DTweak or whatever is used nowadays and turn on 32bit Z Buffer option the plugin will work.

Tried it myself with pretty much the same card (8500).

yeah. 1.6 fixed several notable problems i had with pokemon snap, and others. i hope the next video plugin is Dx9 Compatible and can properly use pixel shaders for reflective surfaces :p

DirectX 8.1 compliant cards can reflect surfaces. No Nintendo 64 can reflect surfaces like GameCube does.

If you go in to advanced setting on you graphics card, will there be an option (somewhere) where you can enable 32bit z-buffer. It will probably fix the problem, it worked with my 9200se

Hi, my direct3d in dxdiag says that the functionality is not available. It won't let me test it. Also, the dxdiag knows what my video card is, but not how much memory it has (it says N/A). I can't play pj64 1.6 because it says Direct3D could not be found. How do I fix this?

What exactly is your video card? I'm thinking that it's a chip, hence why it might not show the available video memory.

video card

The video card is mobility radeon 9700 64mb. Something weird recently happened with a blue screen appearing everytime I would boot the laptop on, before that I was able to play well. I re-installed the drivers and now it won't work saying it can't find Direct3D.

I installed the omega drivers, I also re-downloaded directX, but that didn't bring directdraw or direct3d back. Also, I remember being able to see the memory on the vid card from the DxDiag display tab. The other problem is that if I download the drivers from sony.com (This is a VAIO) the laptop won't start, the blue screen saying something about physical memory comes back, with the omega drivers it doesn't.

I have re-downloaded pj64 1.5 and 1.6, and still keep getting the same problem, it doesn't find Direct3D on my system. Need some more help =(.

All I can say at this point is that your operating system is seriously messed up. Reinstalling Windows should (hopefully) fix it.

Did you click yes everytime the omega installation promted to overwrite files? Test to uninstall the omega drivers and download the latest catalyst drivers instead (v6.5)

catalyst drivers

I uninstalled the omega drivers and downloaded the .net framework along with the catalyst drivers 6.5 and I am still unable to get Direct3D to work. Another problem (not sure if it might help solve it) is that everytime I try to scroll down/up files and/or websites, it lags and you can see 1 horizontal line going up or down depending which way you're scrolling doing what seems to be refreshing the page. This didn't use to happen before, is there anyway to test if something has fried in my computer? (Ram, vid card, corrupted hardware)

It sounds like the drivers aren't installing properly... my Windows installation has been messed up before and had trouble installing and "remembering" drivers" before - it stinks :(

How were you able to fix it? I have just finished reformatting and keep getting the same error, it won't let me enable direct3d, directdraw, and agp texture acceleration. (Have tried with omega drivers, catalyst 6.5, and sony.com drivers, all of them are unable to use direct3d, but sony.com ones crash my computer). I am also unable to use the file that sony.com requires me to use to flash the bios, everytime I try to use it, it says it can't find bios.wph, but I don't know where to find it or how to flash the bios with that driver.
