IT WORKS! hey hey, thanks for all of your help blight and malcom. i had center and surround still muted, thats why sound still wasn't coming through.

*edit* ok, for some reason the sound is very very staticky, is there a reason for this? something i can do to fix it? i know there is a way to fix this, i KNOW IT!

Yep, I got a fix.

I just compiled the new'ish 2.6.0-beta6 development kernel and the sound static is gone. Only problem I get now is when the CPU is under huge pressure (like when I'm compiling stuff) my sound speeds up and then after like 2 seconds it re-syncs again; I only experience this problem in xmms, I tried it with various other players (gnome sound recorder, aplay, gxine, mplayer) and couldn't reproduce the error with them.

So, try the dev kernel, it be good ^_^
