Preserving a 4:3 resolution ratio

I'm on a widescreen 16:9 1440x900, I set my full-screen resolution to 1024x768 on the Graphics configuration dialog but it still stretches to 1440x900 upon entering fullscreen.

Did I misconfigure something, or is it simply impossible to do?

No. There is a special build of Glide64 somewhere that forces this stuff, because you are not the only one who has asked this.

You cannot disable hardware stretching, and no plugin apart from the special case I mentioned earlier (AFAIK) has such an option that you ask for. Apparently this is very difficult to do because of the way the N64 hardware works, and the Glide64 build is just a quick and dirty hack, or so I've heard.

With my setup (HP LP1965 which is a 4:3 monitor, and nvidia graphics card 7900gs or 8800gt) you can do it in the nvidia control panel: http://i37.tinypic.com/2itrdrr.png of course it makes the black bars appear, but it doesn't distort the image :)

EDIT: 1280x1024 is actually 5:4 heh
