PPC/OSX Version

How difficult would it be to create a Gamecube emulator or port Dolphin to the Mac OSX/PPC platform. After all, the GC uses a PPC processor......

Any comments? Has anyone considered starting such a project?

You're treadin pretty close, but seeing as you didn't request it be ported, you'll be alright. As for the question, if the emu authors were going to port it to a different os, then they would definitely tell us.

Yes he is treading very close to the rules. I would suggest not even mentioning a port of Dolphin to OSX/PPC. It will NEVER happen. Besides, Mac's suck, who would want to play on one anyways :teehee: :teehee:

I'm sorry, I did read the rules but I thought this would be filed under "technical disscussion". Can someone who understands the complexities of emulation explain to me if a PPC based computer would have an easier time emulating the GC? And if so, why did the developers opt to start the project on the x86/windows platform?

Did you expect each platform would require equal effort, or was it simply a case of a larger user base? Again it just seems natural to me that a PPC would have an eaiser time emulating another PPC based computer than x86 would.

Again, sorry if I violated the rules, but I am not requesting a port.

Ok, I agree that asking about porting is silly at this stage, even if their CPUs are very simiar. But can't people just quit with the 'Macs Suck' / 'PC Suck' thing? Really, its very imature - it seems that some people think its ok to insult others based on their computer, very sad really.

I actually heaqrd from a friend who uses a mac that PSX emulation is a hell of a lot faster on it. Don't know about any other type of emulation, though.

SixtyForce [n64 emu] is one of the fastest N64 emus about, runs Perfect dark at good speeds on a 800mhz G4 [mac only then]. Flarestorm is the PSX emu, very fast, getting better all the time [still being worked on] - its true that Dolphin would more than likely run much faster sooner on a mac, but there is no point complaining/asking about it too much, its upto the devs what they do.

Also, I think creating an emulator for the most-used OS has priority over creating one for a n OS that you could get it running the smoothest on in a short time.
