Chrylove was American too. He also played in a band, and played Violin :) both qualities our friend Pandamoan also has...

he played violin? that is rather unusual. well here's a pic of me, dunno if that will change anyone's mind. i'm assuming that ill looking devil (his icon) was his face. i doubt anyone would post that cancer victim icon and not be his self. i don't have many pics digitized, but here's one:

/edit
i did another forum search and i found a thread where he talked about playing viola. i don't play viola either. dunno....

please, there is NO music education anymore in THIS country, so do yourself a favor and research just one of these acts. i teach music appreciation, and some of this music has changed students lives. i've tried to include at least four artists from every major genre, as well.

So go and appreciate your own likes, and stop flaming other peoples favorites. How can you preach to be this great music lover and yet be so cinical? And if Blink182 is such a crappy band then why are they so popular? Think about. You don't have to play complicated songs to sound good. Basic works good enough for them (not that they always are). So stop trying to force your musical "knowledge" on people and let them think what they want about music.

Firstly, let me say this. Popularity is not a sign of talent, that is just wrong on so many levels (not just music). do you even need me to give examples? just look at the whole idol phenomenon, britney, christina, robbie.

it seems like everyone is flamin panda but i agree with him to some extent. Dont get me wrong, im not paying anyone out here, and im not saying that Blink falls into the categorty of crap, it just seems that this topic has shifted to an overall view on music not just blink 182 so i thought i'll add in a little rant of my own :p

well there is alot of shit out there which people listen to, personally i cant listen to any of the new r n b artists out there, this is a perfect example of how a genre has just turned to crap. You all know what im talking about, the computerised repititious doof doof played in the background of ediited singing usually about ganstas, bitches and ho's. this is not music.

The only bands i listen to let alone appreciate consist of a group of people that can actually pick up an instrument and play, not just string together a couple of sentances to a beat. Hell, half of the best music i have is just guitar riffs and drum solos.

if people want to listen to crap, sure thing, let them have fun, but there is alot of good music out there which they are missing out on. (that list from panda contains a feckload of good bands). im not paying out anyones choice of music in these forums, im just having a little rant :)

You're right Macca. That's not really what I meant say about talent = popularity or vice-versa. I guess I'm kinda lost as to how to express what I actually meant in that statement. I was trying to get out that if they're meeting their expectations and gathering a huge fan base then I don't think that it's fair to label them as a crap poor band that Panda has in every rant of his. And to base talent on popularity is unjustified. But no matter whether a band sounds like a dying seagull to you, if they're being successful then horrah for them.

It's like asking some old person who grew with country and asking them about their opinion on Hendrix. He's one of the greatest guitarists ever but they hate the loud music and maybe the lyrics. So their opinion is pretty much invalid as to the quality of the band. Such is Panda's view because he has based everything on talent, and the fact that he seems to hate pop-punk and emo. So his view on music 'talent' and 'success' is pretty much blurred as to the whole point of this conversation in the first place.

well, i'd agree with the hendrix/country thing, but that's a straw man... there are some good "pop-punk" and emo bands. blink 182 isn't one of them.

i'd say the queens of the stone age are sort of pop punk, as is rancid. both fine bands.

in the emo genre, there's modest mouse, and probably some others, but the ratio of crap:quality is so high in emo that i haven't had the time to find other ones.

i'm not an elitist, i just wish people had more time to devote checking out music in general, instead of getting force fed the corporate horse shit that is pop music these days (and yeah, macca, new r n b is a key example of that).

i enjoy everyone's opinions whether they agree with me or not.

:D
