dude, don't take it harsh. The people here are unable to see outside their own little world, and assume that just because it's different from what they would say or think or do it's wrong. Screw em.

one interesting thing i have found on internet forums is that people dont know how a discussion works. (this post is not just in relation to this thread but it seems to be a trend these days)

Some people agree with a topic, some dont. you cant simply bag someone for disagreeing with you. it is infact you that your comment applies to. for some reason you dont understand that people are allowed to have an opposing opinion and voice it.

in this case...Some people like Blink. Some people dont and both groups have voiced their opinion. (sure it may have been in an animated way but isnt that what you want, or would people prefer a 'yes' or 'no' answer?

Now the people that dont like blink (which is against your pov) are being bagged, told to see outside their world and respect others opinions. i simply dont get it. you are a walking contradiction. In a thread about Blink 182, you should expect a discussion consisting of people who like and people who dont like them. thats how a discussion works, and thats what forums are for.

As i said, this rant is not just related to your post or this thread, it is just a consistancy which i seem popping up on all different forums.

.

wow, can i mod this up as +5 insightful?

and, for anyone who can play even the beginnings of stairway to heaven, open up and admit how much blink 182 completely lacks any musical talent.

travis is an ok drummer (not nearly comparable to any of the jazz guys out there today, or in the past, and i'm not a big jazz fan), but he was added LATER, AFTER the band started making money. he's a paid proffessional sitting in with some shmucks selling crap to teens who don't know better. those two, are lucky lucky fools.

the only thing worse than the lame 4 note guitar solos and matching chord riffs, is their two pathetic whiney voices singing about stuff they wrote probably 12 years ago, when they were still teenagers.

then these two ass clowns decided to start a "real" band and came out with box car racers, wherein they toured briefly with a bass player that WASN'T EVEN ON THE ALBUM. now THERE is a lucky ass clown. "dude, you fit the look, can you play these five notes over and over? sweet!"

liking horrible music is not a sin, and i think you should have the right to listen to whatever garbage universal and emi spit out at you, but don't try to make the point that these commercial lottery winners are actual musicians.

anyone who actually PLAYS music listens to REAL bands, like hendrix, the doors, beatles, james brown, chilli peppers, victor wooten band, pink floyd, that kind of stuff. i know MANY, MANY musicians (i myself am a proffesional. pm me for links), and not ONE of them listens to that pre pubescent garbage.

but hey, when i was 13 i thought vanilla ice was cool, so you're allowed all the ignorance you want, and i won't slam you for it. just don't talk out of your ass about REAL music, and REAL musicians. you obviously don't know anything about it.

and yeah, rancid is pretty decent for a punk band that went platinum. still edgy which is the one thing punk has going for it.

Look, if someone derives pleasure from listening to certain music, who the fuck cares. Personally I don't like Blink182, but each to their own.

Let's not flame people and insinuate that they are pre-pubescent purely based on a band they like. It's the real non intellectual pre-teens that make sweeping statements such as that.

Interesting point from Macca on messageboard etiquette though. I would tend to say, if a thread is started out asking for your favourite Blink182 song, then by and large unless you actually have one you shouldn't post. I mean your favourite Blink182 song as a title hardly invites you to have a debate on why they suck.

A title such as "What do you think of Blink182?" would invite that though.

....having said all that, if this post had been "Which of Westlifes songs are the best?" then I would have flamed... roflmao Hypocrit.. me, you betcha :p

pandamoan, you are sitting on a real high horse there. i do not question your ability to identify musical talent or well played music but statements like "you are a retard but its ok because you are young and i forgive you" really annoy me.

for some reason lots of people (well mostly teenies) in this world listen to pop music by bands which producers pull out of their ass to play artifical music. my opinion is - it sucks and i cant understand why they like it for the world but what the hell! i dont walk up to them, punch them in the face and tell them they are retards. in a related note, if you hit every stupid person youll never get around to do anything.

hope you get my drift ;)

back to good music .. punk rock has some nice ones indeed, im sure sy will agree.

finch, boysetsfire, anti-flag, nofx, amen (which is more punk metal), propaghandi, sugarcult, bad religion ... other than that i like american hi-fi and linkin park as well. just my 2 cents. when i get off my lunchbreak i should start another "favorite bands" thread i think ;)

Who's Blink182 again? Are they the one's who did "All the small things"? If so, I thought it was marginally good. But not as good as "I believe in a thing called love" by The Darkness which is my current fave. I hate most of this new music, but that song I thought was funny, so I liked it.

In the UK, music is really shitty IMO and not worth bothering with. It's all too "cool" and I'm not "cool", I am a super-duper ultra Nerd-Geek [and proud] and think all these songs are crap. More often than not, you'll hear me humming music from games and not current chart "hits" which are mainly R 'N B and [C]Rap (because this shit is "cool" music that you will be "cool" listening to with your friends who also listen to this "cool" music which is actually utter trash mumbling with no coherent lyrics making them impossible to 'sing' along with.) I sound like an old person, but it's true.

Once upon a time, songs actually had proper lyrics, so at least songs by Blink182 have lyrics. I'd never buy any of their albums of course, but I'd prefer this stuff than the current singles in the chart.

For UKers: In the Record of the Year, there was this extremely shitty song involving a fat black man taking his shirt off. How the fuck did that get to No. 1??? I just don't understand how that "song" could be conceived as "good".

The record of the year to my understanding was actually voted as Westlifes insipid cover of 'Mandy' by Barry Mannilow.

Yeah it was (surprise, surprise!), but the song I mentioned was in the running and actually got to the last seven beating some better songs! I was wondering if anyone liked the record, perhaps, since it did reach No. 1 in the singles chart.

That show was SO rigged, since Westlife's cover was only recently released. Busted or Daniel Beddingfield should have won as their songs were better. I was suprised that Black eyed Peas didn't do better, they were at No. 1 for weeks on end.

Im a huge hendrix nut, beatles nut and love pink floyd and the chilli's and yet you insist on condescending my music tastes because I like Blink 182. Liking the current less popular bands does not make you a better person.

Oh and Celements, are you a fresher by any chance? 'Cus you know the Darkness are gonna go the way of spandou ballet.. something to remember this year by right? There is plenty of music variety out there dude, all you have to do is to look, and not be biased against types you may not have liked before (or bands you have never heard of etc).

Westlife are retiring, it was their "final hurrah" for the history books :getlost: Its Cowell thing, he knows how the westlife suckers minds work.. (but then so does a chimp.. westlife release song.. millions of people buy).

crhylove, is that you? Because I swear that you have the same annoying and elitist writing style that a member I've banned from this very board used to have.

who? i went and did a forum search:

http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=9179&page=2&pp=10&highlight=crhylove

sounds like an ass.

however:

this thread i found:
http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=8211&highlight=crhylove

was fairly interesting.

i couldn't find why he was banned. i'm such a lame n00b.

"you are a retard but its ok because you are young and i forgive you" really annoy me.

i didn't say that at all. it's wierd how many people thought i was "an elitist" and flaming someone. i WAS flaming blink 182, that crap makes me want to throw the radio/tv/computer through the window when i see/hear it.

but i mentioned that at one point i thought vanilla ice was cool. so an elitist i'm certainly not.

my motives were to hopefully expose someone to other better bands with more to offer musically, lyrically, and artistically.

i guess i should do a better job.

if you haven't heard this list of artists, please check them out.

king crimson
pink floyd
bob marley
the doors
the beatles (only their later stuff, that 50's stuff was horrid)
the sex pistols
the beastie boys
beck
the gypsy kings
the chieftains
al green
james brown
stevie wonder (his collection is diverse, some better than others)
cake (don't see them live though, OUCH!)
ella fitzgerald
stan getz
the carter family
johnny cash (same comment as stevie)
johnny lee hooker
robert johnson
kila
cream
mozart
bartok
danzig (not that terrible band he was in before the solo stuff)
dave brubeck
deee-lite (practically invented rave/techno)
ernest tubb
junior brown
fiona apple
frank zappa
g love and special sauce
"iz"
herbie hancock
jefferson airplane
jimi hendrix
jorma kaukonen
kd lang
kenny burrell
strunz & farah
anything involving yo yo ma
norah jones
nat king cole
moxy fruvous (amateur in some ways, but excellent harmonizers)
nirvana
ottmar liebert (he sucks, but his band was quite good can't remember their name)
portishead (very creative stuff, though heavily digital)
early santana
shoppy
rage against the machine (though they lack depth, great players)
squirrel nut zippers
steely dan
sublime
system of a down
cypress hill
tower of power
war
violent femmes

please, there is NO music education anymore in THIS country, so do yourself a favor and research just one of these acts. i teach music appreciation, and some of this music has changed students lives. i've tried to include at least four artists from every major genre, as well.

in 1000 years, these are the recordings that will be listened to, if our species lasts and the recordings do with it. these are the mozarts and vivaldis of our time.

stop wasting your beautiful human life on corporate rap/rock, and "emo" punk. taste healthier mental food.

/end rant

Finch or funeral for a friend or probably top of the genre and some of the best music i own.

They never out did their first album, heres hoping audioslave can make waves, their album is impressive if a little inconsistent. Of the list you made i'd make a few additions a few subtrations but the nucleus is pretty good.. and yet i like blink 182

You really are preaching to the converted here, i dont list genre's i like because it takes too long, i list genre's i dont like which takes about 10 seconds..
