Playlist Patent trouble

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
I've seen that, but do you actually think they'll get away with it?
Hey you there, give us money or we'll sue you and shut down your pathetic free media player! :S

"Predictably, Premier appears to have no tangible company history other than patent infringement lawsuits and does not produce any sort of product that competes with any of the companies listed."

#1 reason why this should be thrown out of court.

Man, I'm so sick of hearing of these cases. Software patents have quickly become a very bad idea for everybody.

Heck no, there's craploads of audio players out there that use a playlist. Having such a monopoly on the idea of a playlist is quite ludicrous IMHO (hence why I thought it so funny).

Also not to mention enforcing the patent would be extremely difficult to do, due to the vast number of audio players using a playlist or similar database structure.

Yeah, this issue reminds me of the lawsuit Alcatel launched against MS for supposed MP3 infringements, when Microsoft already paid the license costs for Fraunhofer's ACM codec for MP3 decoding and encoding direct to Fraunhofer IIS.

I doubt they care about enforcing it. They just want to do it so they can enforce everyone to pay for their idea. Then they could just go out and find some new apps and demand money. It's not like they're trying to protect intellectual property, but more like trying to mine a goldmine.

That's an appropriate description, you have just created a new term.
Patent Troll: n - A company or entity, that creates or uses patents of questionable viability as part of it's business model with the intent to coerce licensing from other businesses or sue other businesses, for profit.

An example of this is the SCO suit of IBM. Very similar tactics. It's the latest thing in business models didn't you know? Working is optional, really you don't need to study and work hard when you can sue people who have right?

These days you don't need to work! See you make a junk patent then sue EVERYONE to make profits without work! Wow talk about a get rich quick scheme! :D

This reminds me of BT claiming to patent web links!
