What's new

PJ64 to BSoD

I loved to play Perfect Dark on PJ64, but then I upgraded to a full Gb of RAM, and all of a sudden, Project 64 keeps crashing after 5 minutes of gameplay. Well, rather, just all of Windows is. I get to Windows XP's blue screen of death repeatedly when running PJ64. All my other programs are running fine.

This is the error I get.

"IRQ_IS_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO"

Over and over.

Any ideas why this is happening? I tried other ROM's, and it's happening there too. I reinstalled too, and I get the same result.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you have a driver problem with your video card. Are you running the latest drivers? Did you try another video card? Usually when you get a BSOD on a regular basis, it's related to some driver issue.

I ran PJ64 on a Radeon 9100 previously... no errors.
I ran PJ64 on a Radeon 9600 on 256 Mb of RAM... no errors.
Then I ran PJ64 on the Radeon 9600 AGAIN with the SAME drivers on 1 Gb of RAM... BSoD.

And all my other games are simply running perfectly. I also have the latest ATI drivers, which seem to be all working fine.

Oh, and small edit but...

I've been upgrading my PC, but I had to wait for my two 512 Mb RAM sticks to come in. So, I had the video card upgraded, and I litterally played Perfect Dark all night last night. Then this morning, the RAM comes in, I install it, all is working fine, Windows is detecting it, all my other games are working smoothly, I'm able to play most of my games on 100% quality, etc. Then I decided to run Perfect Dark again, and then I get the BSoD. I ran Zelda: OoT after, and I got the same result after playing for a short while. :(

the BSOD is an error with a driver IRQ_IS_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO is a driver issue. What that has to do with more memory no clue, why nothing else crashes except pj64 no clue either, but you could try other drivers and see if it makes any difference

Well, I just checked for driver conflicts... Nothing. All clear...

I have no idea why it just starts doing this after sticking 2 512 Mb RAM sticks in and taking out my old 256 Mb one.

clearly a hardware problem: location: motherboard / ram

i think either
1) bad ram
2) incompatible ram
3) motherboard has ram timings wrong

google that error you'll get loads of hits.

Sound like its trying to access the same Interrupt Request Channel (IRQ) as a critical windows file, thats why your getting crashing. Use 'Regedit' and try to sort them out.

don't talk about what you don't know

files don't access irq's only Hardware.

the problem is the Memory mapping for the extra 512mb is causing a corrupt data transfer to the video driver.

in other words.. the ram might be bad.

As Smiff said, it looks like a bad ram problem.

Try reading your motherboard specs, and check that you installed supported modules of ram, in the right banks, etc. Also try to update graphics and motherboard drivers.

Already ran the memory test.

Already updated drivers.

Well, I'm defragging my disk now. How about lets try that? I haven't in a while. _ _

Not yet.. I can I guess.

I got plenty of blue screen errors last time before I defragged my disk, so I'll see if this is the problem after it's done. I used to have the IRQ error pop up while browsing OCRemix and Newgrounds until I defragged my disk, then it disappeared.

What's the full name for the ram? Tell me, so I won't buy that company's ram. :D

I think the best thing to do is try right now is try other version of pj64, maybe 1.5 or 1.4. Other emulators like 1964 would be a good idea.

You maybe already doing this, but this is the temporary solution to the problem.

Yeah... 1964 is actually working okay, only for when I play PD, the screen sometimes just suddenly blacks out or the game freezes in the middle of scrolling through the menus... o_O So, it came to be that for Perfect Dark, Project 64 was the only way to go. XD

have you done a scan disk of your drive, maybe bad sectors ?

Yes, I have. :)

...and... I looked up the stop code errors, and it seems that my USB Flash Drive might be causing the problems rather. Well, it could either be my RAM OR the Flash Drive. And the Flash Drive causing problems with Project 64 would actually make sense concidering I've been storing my ROM's on it for 3 years... so... *unplugs it*

And I'll test some things out...

Gah... I never really gave a thought about this either. >< I called the computer place where I bought the RAM (and they were the ones that ran the memory check on my compter for me), and I gave them the stop codes... And they said that if it's the RAM, something happened on the way home, or it's just my flash drive, as the stop codes are also pointing towards a faulty USB device... IE, my flash drive, my printer, or my game pad, as they're all USB devices I have plugged in. The flash drive or the gamepad would make some sense, as I use them both while running Project 64. Not only that, but I recently got another error after saving an image I had stored on it from Paint!

So, we'll see if I have it or not. =)

*edit*

Well, no problems yet... That seems to be the problem so far. It just HAPPENED to die the same day I put in my RAM.
