Pixel Shading

In any of rices new plugins, i cant use pixel shaders. i dont get it because my laptop was built with dx9 in it so i thought it met the requirements for pixel shaders. i keep getting an error and it says it will use best fit. arg someone help me out :cry:

your graphics card doesnt have pixel shaders capabilities. It is compatable with directx9 but isnt able to use the pixel shader technology.

damn do pixel shaders work better than limited stage combiners and high end combiners? just curious

thanks for the info maybe i shuld be using limited 3 stage combiner rather than limited 4 to get the most accurate results for myself

So far, the only game that does display a beneficial difference with pixel shader is Goldeneye 007. Super Mario 64, Harvest Moon 64, Snowboard Kids and Snowboard Kids 2 probably won't display any differences with pixel shader and thus the high end combiner, limited 4 stage combiner and limited 3 stage combiner probably will be OK.

The pixel shader combiner was mainly to fix compatibility problems with the high-end cards, as DX7 type cards had much less issues using the other combiners. Same with S/W T&L, not needed for MX cards, but can help a lot with Ti/FX cards.

Pixel shader is much more accurate for complicated combiner modes in most big titles, GE, Zelda, PD, etc. If you want to compare, here are a few examples:

Zelda logo
Mario Tennis player shadow, and shadows in many other games
GE menus
Conker, the whole game

High end combiner or 2-stage combiner (manually configurated combiner settings) are OK to run these games, but not as beatiful as pixel shader.

And to think the Nintendo 64 came out years before pixel shader technology in 3D cards for computers... ;)
