Pioneer DVR-107D Giving Me Hell

I bought some Ritek DVD+R 8x Media from newegg.com to go along with my shiny new Pioneer DVD-+R/RW drive, since Ritek ownz (apparently not). After installing Nero on my new PC (6 Ultra Edition, legally purchased from Ahead themselves) and I noticed that even when i flashed with the newest firmware, it listed max write speed at 4x (DAMN!) and another thing, i suspected the media may be faulty cause its rated 8x, can only burn max 4x due to nero problems, would give me a power calibration error at 4x, so i was stuck burning at 2.4X!! I checked the media with some program called DVDInfo and this is what it said:

there was a bunch of other shit listed under the drive but it seemed useless, does anyone know if this media is truly RItek 8X, or if i was sold some 4X with a different sticker on the box? And whats up with my drive? All i know is, if i need Ritek discs from now on, i'll get em from meritline

Its probably the discs mate, i wouldn't recommend the ritek dye myself, i usually use the princo dyed disks (usually bulkpaq), they are much more compatible and relyable. Have you tried any other 8x dvd-r or + discs with it?

i don't know of many others :(, Meritline advises the use of Ritek, BeAll, and their own brand, but i don't trust them (yet) i heard that Ricoh discs were very good (ID is something like RICOHJPN01 or something)

I hate Ritek, since one of their brands (Maxell) always fails 20% percent (i tested 50 48xCDRs@48x,24x and 20 4xDVDRs@4x,2x of Ritek/Maxell) :(
I tested the cdrs on LG GCC4480B Combo and DVD-Rs on Pioneer DVR106.

i actually loved the Maxell (Ritek) 48x CD-Rs, i didn't get a single coaster out of the entire 50, and at the time i used to hate Ritek which is why i sent Maxell a letter asking them why i had gotten cheapo depot discs at retail price, i got a reply saying that after ritek improved their standards or something they began using them too (not all maxells are riteks, some are CMC). anyone know if PioData (Pioneer OEM Discs) are any good?

also, me and my buddy tried making a backup of his copy of Halo for his XBox on said Ritek 8X DVD+Rs (which only burn at 2.4x) and they wouldn't read. it IS chipped and it has the samsung drive, does anyone know if the samsung drive can even read +Rs so instead of trying another brand +R, we can try another -R brand

damn i feel stupid lol, i bought the ritek's from newegg which is why i never saw that chart, i knew i should have gone for that optorite, at least i now i can chuck this into one of my other boxes........or sell it, anyone want a slightly used Pioneer DVR-107D??

keyword: DVR-107D, = Internal Drive, there is no external 107 based drive, besides, a (hacked) firmware update fixed things up, along with connecting the DVD Burner on its own power connecter rather than sharing one with my fan

actually, that is a normal 107D in a generic USB2 enclosure, as all external 107D's (at this moment), pioneer has yet to release a 107 based external drive, the newest is 106

sheik,...you might want to have a look at club.cdfreaks.com . There's a pioneer and a dvd media forum over there where you can find out what media it really likes.Ritek media really seems to differ a lot. And about what stezo said about princo ,stay away from that brand. Their quality ranges from poor to average.

i ignored the princo remark he made due to the fact that i had horrible experiences with it as well too :), i actually hang out at cdfreaks.com alot, and guess what, there has just been an external 107D announced by pioneer, cool
