paper mario problems

hi, sry to bother but I was wondering if anyone could help me out. i was playing paper mario on the project 64 and i used the normal default settings. it was running fine and then like after a storyline part. it was like a multiude of error messages. it was like can't translate. do u have any advice like do i need a new emulator or rom, etc? thanx

Make sure that your ROM is good (Scan it with GoodN64). Also, what are your computer specs?

Might be worth mentioning which version of the ROM that GoodN64 saw it as. I've been playing the Paper Mario (U) [!] version (as indicated by GoodN64) and haven't had many problems, aside from the ones documented in the GameFAQ. The ones I've run into haven't been reproducible (hit two game-stopping bugs once, but after reloading a save state I got through the same spots fine).

this might not be descriptive enough but from what i can see, my version of paper mario is (E) (M4) do u know will this one not work. i just got it from this site called freeroms.com but just wondeirng how u got your version since it works for u, the U, ! verions

Don't mention where you get roms. It is recommended that you have a "good" rom (indicated by a [!]), and perferbly US versions.

GoodN64 sees my version as Paper_Mario_(E)_(M4)_[!].Z64. Could the fact that its European be causing difficulties, even though it's "good" ([!])

A few more details...

It reproduces every time at the same spot, even if I reload a save state. It's at the end of the cinematic where princess gives twink the "Luck Star" and then goes out on the balcony wondering where Mario is. The scene fades to a white screen. As soon as the whole screen is white, the following error pops up: "Cache: Failed to translate: 0". When I click OK, I get the same error but with 20 instead of 0. Clicking OK causes it to increment by 20 (hex) each time, indefinitely as far as I can tell.

E or U version shouldn't really matter, but in some cases, it does....
Again, a "good" rom is recommended because they are, again, more tested than non-good roms.
Also, we do generally not recommend using savestates, or at least, when you encounter errors such as these, try saving a native save (that is, save as you would do through the game) and reload that native save. Sometimes it helps problems. The problem is that savestates are "snapshots" of the emulation, so the error is likely to occour at the same spots over and over again.

yes, same here, after peach scence, your game is screwed. i think we all having this same problem. but no one is willing to help or give a solution or a place where to find the rom. i feel like i'm talking to George W. Bush about the war

If no one replies, then no one KNOWS the solution. But many problems are easily solved by the users themselves. Try messing around with settings, plugins, etc, or just get another version of the game.

you CANT get another version of the game, anywhere i go its the E version... and yes iv already realized that you cannot give out where you get roms on this forum

BTW paper mario is hard to find in my opinion

thats the only soulution for you. go hang with google and it may be your lucky day

I had the same problem as you all have and there is another thread on about page 7 that will help you with the problem. I think its called help with paper mario and it is started by fire fox. There is information in there that will help you with the problem.
