Gondar : again i agree with you some follow the rules other dont or dont even bother to read the faqs before posting (what afcouse are annyoing) but my point was not to drop to same level if all did that it would start flaming/bicthing treads and that looks very unfriendly to people...

generalplot : i have read a few of your post now and can see you are idd are very helpfull to others what i really respect just remember its a forum where people are allowed to express their feelings even if you dont agree ...

a sidenote i never had a Dreamcast or tryed the emulator i did write here becouse i feelt it was going alittle unfriendly here thats the reason i wrote :)
i tho love the emu-scene but mostly uses the emulators for the machines there had a impact on me as kid and did own or still does ...

An expression of feelings is one thing, breaking the rules is another. The chankast thread page is very specific about the rules of not asking when a new version will be released and such. Authors see these kinds of posts and figure that they are not being appreciated (and they can't be blamed for feeling that way). I've talked to authors, and they've always told me that the only thing they like to hear are that people are happy with their work. This alone sometimes can be what drives them to make improvements. Hope you will find this understandable. ;)

And it's their decision when they want to tell us what's the latest on their project. It usually works like this though: no news=no large step in progress. Nobody should be asking/demanding for current information as relates to their work. Asking never does anything, but constant asking has led to bans. You may just want to drop this. ;)

im not into the dreamcast EMU Scene but the story are the same the making of a emulator isnt a walk in the park it takes time ALOT of time the author(s) uses thier spare time (for many of them its a hobby) and dont get any money for the effort so thier personal life kicks in always for a author at some point some return others dont some release thier source codes others again dont you cant tell a person thier have used his own time/knowledge to relase anything nor to continue ...

then some people sees the emulator start a rom/iso DL spree try them and then beginins complaining over XX game dosent work (asking for updates)

the point in it are all the emulators authors Goal are to make a it as close as possible to the real thing.. But its a hobby and imagine yourself sitting day after day month after month yes even year after year trying to get it as good as possible finding bugs ect ect many would give up i for one respect every one of them and what they ative ..

In a conversation with Refraction (a coder for PCSX2) his words were: "you try to get things working, so you fix a bug, and before you know it fixing one bug makes ten more new bugs". As you can imagine, this would be very frustrating. Authors must have the patience of a saint. And for their tireless effort, they deserve appreciation. I'm glad you can see that Playfull. ;)

If your so desperate to play these games why not just buy a DC, i went out and got one yesterday pre-owned for ten pounds, and any of the games you have for your Chankast can go straight on disk to play on your dreamcast. Chankast is still an amazing tool, for previewing games and for playing the homebrew games.

i do understand that these talented guys behind
chankast have their work cut out for them if they continue coding
as it would be alot harder for them if they had took a break as
going back to a project like this without it being fresh in the mind
could easly break lots of working code and this could be a reason
why there has been such a long time without an update.its been
near 12 months , in that time 5/6 months break , lol i mean people
have lifes to lead and bills to pay , and then as stated about 4 months
ago they had chankast running on the xbox which looks like thay have
started work of some sort on chankast once more and as we speak
they are most likely hard at it getting to grips with it once more and
making more progress.this to me is all totaly fine , nothing out of the
ordinary , and i did post against this but i was just being blind and
didnt think before i posted.so if you think about it although we have all
sayed that there has been next to no info from the chankast team
there actuly has been , they did tell us they would be taking a break from chankast (5/6 months) is about normal for anyone , then after that time
they did get back to us with more info about it running on xbox and
that it runs much faster , is more optimised and that sound is also much
better.i dont really see a problem thay are working hard and deserve
all the respect and support we can give them.i just hope its true that
they dont visit these forums often , as from some of the posts would
be like a kick in the teeth and disheartening.
and im sure if the chanka team wanted to stop working on chanka
indefinatly they would tell us somthing without leaving us in the dark.

im a die hard emulation fan , and as such , im also a collector
and i loved it when chanka was released , i also think most folk
who visit these forums are on the same kinda boat as me
and its understandible that you are going to get (idiots) asking
stupid questions and crying about this and that , but its only
to be expected , why dont everyone just chill out and relaxe
and if chanka never comes then it never comes.
but know that no news IS good news and it could be released
in 5 minz who knows.

theres a big blue sky out there and a shop with a dreamcast for £10

well

for the non-opensource guys. Would you rather it stay closed source if there isn't a plan to ever release a new version?

Just curious? I have a dreamcast arcade cabinet. So the only use for me would be that could change it to a non-disk swapping version... would would be cool. But open the coin door and swap a disk is easy enough... plus it plays all the games perfectly :)

I would love to see some action anyway. I love the dreamcast! I would love to see it emulated farther.

if the authors decides to make it open source its fine or if they dont either way you most respect thier choice after all its thier creation not ours thats my point of view

And that's a good way to look at it. This about sums it up. ;)

The guy/gal is just itching to see the next version and means no harm. The creators of this emulator are smart, enthusiastic and had a vision. I think in reality we look up to these people and once they deliver the goods we expect them to keep delivering, much like we expect Spielberg to deliver the goods when his next film comes out. Let's not get too defensive because someone is keen eh.

Spielberg makes money for what he does. The emulator authors don't. Need I say more? Plus as the rules point out (you're pretty new, so you've probably missed them) that asking for new versions/release dates is not permitted. Maybe you should check them out.;) And this coming from the guy who thinks Psyman's sarcastic o_O
