Is it possible to play the non-echelon version?
are there serious bugs?
are there not so serious but still existing crashes and freezes? (what about that inventory freeze i hear about)

what about the echelon + fix version?

Thank you in advance!

echelon version doesn't boot at all, the fix removes the echelon intro so it is like the normal one...
Both have random crashes and such but they are very rare, Just be sure to save often.

did you or anyone complete the (non-echelon) game? can you/he tell me what kind of glitches there are, would you recommend me to play it now or to wait a year or so? also - are there savestates in chankast?

I think that card should be fine....

And yes, the game can be finished with chankast... There are only random crashes here and there, just save often!

No, Chankast does't have sstates

Oh.. if I wait a year, what is the chance of the support of this game improving (no crashes, ok music)?

Well... I don't see why you avoid playing it now... It's totally playable and it crashes super rarely... The sound isn't really that messed up, Just a couple of noises here and there and sometimes it gets stuck...

The full version of Skies of Arcadia crashes regularly, including going to a black screen when you try to access your inventory.
The Echelon version doesn't work at all.
The patched Echelon version works quite well, and some have played through the entire game with it.

Depends on your definition for terrible sound ;)
But seriously, sound isn't all that important, Yea the sound is a little bit choppy sometimes but who cares, I turn off the sound anyways...

But if you prefer waiting 20 years for the next chankast release, suit yourself.

I have completed the Echelon version (w00t). I too have GeForce FX 5200. Other specs: Pentium 4 2.0GHz, 768MB DDR-RAM @ 266MHz, WinXP Prof. SP2. Crashes can happen if:

-> You press buttons quickly (for instance you press the Cancel button to exit a menu before it has even loaded completely [but in the real Dreamcast it would just put your command in a buffer so as to execute later]). Even though it doesn't crash at once, you first experience a sound problem (many sounds and BGMs sound really bad, can't describe but you've probably experienced)
-> You play too long (a bit obvious, but I thought I should mention). Note, however, that I managed to play 5 consecutive hours (I did save at regular intervals of about 5 to 20 minutes though) before I closed Chankast not because it crashed but because I got bored. The sound did go off at times but would fix alone a bit later.

When in an airship the emulator is more prone to crashing than otherwise. Also, to avoid pressing buttons too quickly (first point), try setting the Chankast clock (with the +, - buttons) to such speeds so that the game NEVER exceeds 25FPS. I played it at about 15-20FPS to ensure that. Of course that means that the game pretty much plays in slow motion, which explains why I needed 50 hours for my 20 hour game. If you want any game saves I will post my memory cards sometime in late May. Oh, and I've been through the game TWICE!!!

Does anyone else feel too that the game should have more side-quests?

Totally off topic, But yes, I don't think it has any side quests now but I'm only half way through so....

o.....k..... I think I'll wait until I can play without having to worry about quick pressing and playing too much.
Can anyone make a forecast? How much is chankast worked on?

Nope, I'm sure no one here knows anything about it's progress... Might take a couple of years you know ;)

Anyways, May I recommend another great RPG for the DC? It's Grandia II and it runs perfectly on chankast... not a single crash \ slowdown \ sound problem.

good luck,

I've played through Skies of Arcadia 3-4 times (none on Chankast though) but I have one file that I just leveled all the way up to 99. It's a great game (Along with Grandia 2 which I played through 2-3 times). I do feel like it would use a little more quests to lengthen it. They announced a sequel a while back ago, but by the looks of it, it's already dead (though haven't technically begun). :(

Well, It's a pretty straight forward RPG and for me it's good because I tend to get lost in RPGs!
Like I said, I'm halfway through SoA, And I love it :O

Thanks to everyone for helping me so far!
Well I just tried it, and the graphic have more glitches than... something REALLY glitchy.
The menus are full of shadows, many transitions start with a glitched image, after battle spoils aren't showing, lots of transperency issues with locations and most importantly - the worldmap, which is just a mess of a mess of a double-mess.
I don't think the game's very playable like that (due to the world map and the lack of battle spoils and maybe the transitions too, everything else - I can overlook)...
Is there a solution to this graphical mess? If not, I guess I'll have to wait for another version of chankast... there's a new one coming around the next few monthes, right?
